800 remaining is still better than none.

Unfortunately this will continue until the US has tax reform that makes it more attractive to stay and make stuff here.

So we are content with companies holding us hostage? Give us money and we'll only send some of our jobs elsewhere. This doesn't seem Conservative or tenable.

The alternative is to not have business friendly environment, companies all leave and people need to rely on the government for food. That doesn't seem tenable but it's sure progressive.

No, it's not either the dumb far right wing side or the dumb far left wing side.

And what, exactly, about cutting taxes for job providers is "too far to the right"

It might be some degree of correct ... but it's nothing close to a universal guarantee.

Nothing is a universal guarantee. But it doesn't have to be universal to be useful. Turning some decisions in our favor will have a significant impact. And this would turn many.

If we want to turn more, then we need to address the following:
1) We need to improve our education system's ability to train and develop a competent work force.
2) We need to upgrade our infrastructure and restore its position as best in the world.
3) We need to reform our regulatory process--no, not dirty air or dirty water or unsafe working conditions, but a more streamlined and certain and predictable process for attaining those goals. Most of Europe has tighter regulations than we do, but most companies prefer Europe in this regard because they have more certainty about what they are getting into, and faster and more objective determinations when issues arise.

Becoming truly world class in all those areas would place us in a position where our natural geographic and other advantages would drive unequaled economic prosperity--and equality, too, for that matter.

When our tax system imposes severe negative consequences on them for staying here, what do you expect them to do?

If we close the gap, they will stay. If we don't, they really have no choice but to leave.

I agree. The problem is that Trump paraded this as "mission accomplished" when nothing had been done to address the problem. He essentially paid Carrier to send jobs to Mexico. If he lowers corporate tax rates, I'll be happy, but I didn't like this deal then and don't like it now. It was a really expensive PR stunt.

First, the Left has been in an endless barrage of BS dominating every phase of daily News viewing so much so that the Trump adminsrationis having to spend countless hours daily sorting through it to get anything done which is exactly the DNC plan. If the Left media would stop withTheir BS attacks and just STFU the economy would get back on track for everyone. But as long as Republicans control everything, theres No chance of that happening. DNC is Team over Country. Shut The DNC Agenda down and things will turn around over night.

On $57 billion in revenues, $5.1 billion is less that 10% profitability, not an exorbitant amount in any event.

And if one piece is not able to compete in the global marketplace, of what relevance is how the rest of the company is performing?

You just described the GOP during the Obama years. Both parties suck and allegiance to either does not serve the country well.

Go back to context, which sometimes gets lost in the interests of keeping posts at a reasonable length by deleting old history. The this that would turn many in the first paragraph refers to getting rid of the negative consequences of our tax system as discussed in prior posts. These other items are in addition to that. If we get a competitive tax system AND do those other things, then I would anticipate that unequaled economic prosperity.

We have all the natural advantages going for us. As the likes of George Friedman and Peter Zeihan point out, we have the largest contiguous fertile agricultural area in the world, through which run 13,000 of the world's 26,000 miles of navigable waterways, and we are protected militarily by two large oceans to east and west and some rather difficult terrain on our north and south borders. We can actually lose some of the battles and still come out okay in the war. But if we fixed the ones we are losing, we would become even more dominant economically.

No, it's not either the dumb far right wing side or the dumb far left wing side.

What's either "dumb" or "far right wing" about a competitive tax environment?

OK, now I see what you meant.

What if we just did the three things, but did not change the tax system? Still some benefits?

Yep, the standard talking points seem asinine when one merely looks at the numbers.
