Plus you can change your squad after the group stage in the gold cup. So when the knockout round starts Arena can call in some of the more senior players if he wishes too. They all needed a bit of a break too. Plus as Sninho said, increasing the player pool and preparing for the future. The Gold cup before the World Cup is where most teams in our region cap players and give them international competition experience.

RE: OT: USMNT Soccer Thread
my starting XI for the panama game I think is something more like this:

----------------Agudelo---------------
Zardes--------------------------Arriola
----Saief------Acosta------Bedoya----
Villafana----Besler----Gonzo----Zusi
-----------------Guzan-----------------

Not that I think it is the ideal line-up. I just think because Panama is the 2nd best team in our group that Bruce will opt for more experience in this game and let the younger guys go against the weaker sides in Martinique and Nicaragua.

I think your line up is closer to what we'll see than mine was, but I'm ready to move on from Zardes, Bedoya, and Zusi, personally. Zardes may have the worst first touch of anyone in the player pool right now and Bedoya/Zusi have already been passed by younger players. Just my two cents. Panama can win if we're not careful, so I understand being conservative, but I don't necessarily like it. I really like Arriola and I'm anxious to see Saief as well.
