Any other American Outlaws or fans of the USA Men's National Team here?

Big games upcoming in the next couple weeks in WC qualifying. But first the friendly vs Venezuela on Saturday night.

I am a pretty big fan too. They should beat Trinidad and Tobago. Mexico will be difficult though. I saw Jermaine Jones didn't make the team. I know he has been injured, but I still feel he gives us the best chance to win games.

He's also getting old. He's 35, and will be 36 at the next World Cup. Maybe they're trying to find some younger players to take the mantle. Philipp Lahm already retired and is only 33. Xabi Alonso retired at 35. When you're in your mid-to-late-thirties, injuries generally creep in more frequently, and recovery is also slower, so maybe they'd rather not take a chance on him if they can find someone younger to mold who is less likely to suffer from recurring injuries. Whatever the case, I hope it'll work out for them.

Man, I am kind of past Jones to be honest. He was good when he was on for sure. And he still has plenty of pace and endurance at his age. But I think there are young guys who are just as good that need to be called in now and get things ready for the next cycle. Acosta being one of those guys who is a box to box player like Jones and was called into the camp.

I am actually far more ready to move on from Bradley then from Jones. I think Bradley needs to retire or quit being called into the team. He is not the same player he used to be and I think presents us with a liability in central midfield defense against better teams.

Who do you suggest replace Bradley? I don't think there's an American who can. Which brings me the a talking point: who do you think are must starts every time they're available for selection?

I've got F Johnson; Cameron, Bradley; Pulisic; Yedlin

RE: OT: USMNT Soccer Thread
I think putting Cameron, Acosta, or Dax McCarty in Bradley's slot would be a step up. I think all 3 could replace Bradley and immediately be a better option in that position. His play has declined dramatically since his Roma days. My ideal line-up right now would be something like:

-----------Dempsey-----Wood-----------

F Johnson---------Pulisic---------Nagbe

------------------Acosta------------------

Villafana----Brooks----Cameron----Yedlin

-----------------Howard-------------------

Also think Beasley, Zusi, and Bedoya should not be getting called up any longer either. Better options out there in my opinion. I realize they bring experience...but at some point you have to start playing for the present while also preparing for the future.

I think Johnson, Brooks, Cameron, Pulisic, Yedlin, and Wood should be called in every time they are available for all meaningful matches.

yea...not a great game from the US...but a draw is better then a loss even in a friendly. Pulisic saves the day again! We should be able to roll over Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday night. But I don't see us getting any points in Mexico.

Anyone else already a little amped at the talent we have, obviously led by Pulisic, that will be 24-30 for the 2026 WC?

That's what we need to look forward to. I'm hoping getting through qualifying is a little simpler after these next two games, but even if we do so, this team just isn't primed to make a run in the World Cup just yet. We just don't have the right mix in my opinion to do much more than hope to get a good group draw in my opinion. At this point I just want us to take care of business Thursday and figure things out after Mexico. We need to get our young guys as much experience as possible though.

Nashville Outlaw here....pretty frustrating that both WCQ games this Thurs/Sun kick off at the same time as Stanley Cup final games.

By next summer I think Pulisic may already be the sort of singular talent, we've never posessed, that can take us a round or two further than we might otherwise make it, but I agree with your general assesment otherwise. 2022 will be the first real world cup for the next generation of US talent but we'll in all likelihood be too young then.

There are a lot of stalwarts that will definitely be done after 2018, the only guys who seem like presumptive favorites for the starting XI for 2018 and 2022 are Pulisic, Yedlin, and Brooks. I'd throw guys like Acosta, Nagbe, Wood and Morris in there as likely to be on the roster for both cups, not sure about starting.

I'm excited to see which guys like Josh Sargent, Cameron Carter Vickers, Brooks Lennon, Andrew Carleton, Paxton Pomykal are come 2022. I think by 2026 we may have several guys more talented than anyone on the last few squads.

I agree...Just getting out of the group stage at the 2018 WC would be an accomplishment with the group we will likely have. 2022 and 2026 especially since it is going to be here in the good ole USA are the ones I think we may have potential for deep runs. With young guys like Pulisic, Brooks, Yedlin, Palmer-Brown, Sargent, Carter-Vickers, Miazga, Zalalem, Haji Wright, Tillman, Weah, along with a bunch of other young guys playing in the top leagues in Europe, the future looks bright. Those guys should be hitting their prime around 2026.

Yea that part does suck. I switched over from the Preds game the other night when they were up 4-1 to watch the friendly. Here is to hoping the Preds have big leads on Thursday and Sunday too.

Pulisic did it again last night with 2 goals in the 2-0 win over T&T. He now has 7 goals and 5 assists in 15 games with the USMNT. He has also contributed to the last 8 goals scored by the team with 4 goals, 3 assists, and a drawn foul setting up a free kick goal by Dempsey.

Those shoveling dirt on Bradley might need to hold off just a bit. He nearly won the match tonight single-handedly with two massive strikes.

Huge point for the US, and the campaign appears to be back on track. Toughest matches left are both at home against Costa Rica and Panama. If the US can get all 6 home points, at least two road points against T&T and Honduras should clinch a spot in Russia without having to sweat out the inter-confederation playoff.

Define "deep run".

For 2022, deep run is definitely quarterfinals.

For 2026 when the tournament expands to 48 teams and has only a 2-game group phase with knockout games starting at the round of 32, maybe making the round of 16 could be considered a deep run.

Bradley's much MUCH better playing with Acosta than Jones. You can see that in both of the past two games. Acosta is more tactically disciplined and connects the attacking players with the midfield much better than Jones does at this stage of his career.

RE: OT: USMNT Soccer Thread
Yea Bradley saved the day last night for sure. Like Sninho said though he plays much better with Acosta as his partner. Acosta plays box to box and it allowed Bradley to be Bradley from 4 years ago where he makes dangerous runs up the pitch and can play more forward. He still had some really bad giveaways and fouls in dangerous areas. But overall he played a much better game in Azteca than he has played in a while.

I will be honest with the line-up was announced yesterday I was a little beside myself. I am more than glad to be wrong. Though I do maintain if Howard had been in goal instead of Guzan he would have at least got a fingertip on the Mexican goal.
