I'm not trying to belittle our current conference brethren but we have lost a lot of fans due to this new version of CUSA. I know some of you will say they weren't true fans but yes, they were. They just can't get excited about most of the current teams.

If we had made the cut, our budget would have grown. Our fans and donors would have stepped up. I have no doubt we'd be averaging 34-35K for conference games.

The exposure of being in the AAC would have also helped tremendously as well. I mean the last few years I have no clue if I'll be able to watch an away game.

Just venting but it still stings.

I feel your pain. I remember when Cincinnati and Louisville left C-USA in 2004, we felt this way. Those were our best rivals and we figured if they left we would go too. We were left behind with a decent rivalry with UAB and a lot of other teams that didn't move the needle in our fanbase. (I'm talking basketball, not football, as remember back then Memphis was mainly a basketball school.)

The good news is, we did eventually get into a better conference. It's not as good for us as C-USA 1.0 was, but it's better than C-USA 2.0 by miles. If it can happen for us, it can happen for USM.

Well, I'm hoping the AAC will lose a member so that Southern Miss can join. The budget is a sore point though.

If the AAC lost a member or two, I'd be happier if they just kept the same number. Conference championship games are overrated.

Imagine how Houston felt when the Big 12 was formed without them. Relatively speaking, Houston had as strong a football program in the SWC as Southern Miss did in CUSA, if not stronger. Heisman, Lombardi winners. Four Cotton Bowl appearances. Not to mention Final Fours in basketball, Olympic track stars, and a golf team winning national titles. But we sucked in football at the wrong time (1991-93).

Which time? The 90's or last winter

IMO, conference championship games are NOT overrated. The most positively talked about schools have a conference championship game. The one that does not is seen as backward, behind the times, and subject to subsequent break up. I think Southern Miss & NIU would make very nice additions for the AAC.
