U.S. Business Leaders urge Trump to abide by the Paris Agreement
http://fortune.com/2017/06/01/apple-goog...is-accord/

Aside from Elon Musk and Tim Cook, looks like most of the giant oil companies also want to see the U.S. abide by the agreement. Whether we like it or not, we are all interconnected. Even if the agreement is largely lip service only, the appearance of supporting it alone is important to long term U.S. business prospects on an international level. Emissions should drop naturally over time as technology evolves, so why rock the boat when you don't have to?

Guessing any company heavily invested in renewable alternative energy mfg would like see laws/mandates that "sell" their products.

When any business leader suggests anything, the only thing they have in mind is how it will affect their business. And that's their job. So ask yourself, what are their motivations? Alternatively, follow the money.

All the big companies want more regulation. That is part of the racket. Make it so expensive to compete, you get an oligarchy. Show me a small business not directly related to "green" or hippy schit like coffee shops that advocates for any of this crap.

Of course globalists want the US to embrace globalism.

Hopefully this will be another campaign promised fulfilled.

That article right there should give you all the proof that you need that this is really about nothing other than virtue signaling and feel-good policy.

Remember when libs would be absolutely skeptical of anything that is supported by the CEO of companies like Exxon? What happened to that?

Big business loves regulation, the more the better, because they can absorb the costs better than their smaller competitors.

Also... those sweet sweet tax write offs for 'business expenses', or getting funds from the gov to upgrade their infrastructure.

Just like ISPs -- claim they don't have the capital to upgrade their infrastructure, so they get a check from the gov to spend and then charge their customers for the 'new higher speeds' because 'we have to recoup our investment'.

True, but the Paris accord is nonbinding. You do some mea culpas, sponsor legislation you know will fail and pound legislation favorable to growth.

That's why I say don't reject it. Just do our own thing. Our own thing worked better to reduce emissions than Kyoto worked for those who signed Kyoto. I would expect the same result again.

If he does take us out, it will be another unforced error. I don't know how many more of these we can afford considering he will be our president for another 3 + years.

lol...because an executive like Elon Musk wouldnt have a pretty large vested interest in the US being forced to reduce emmissions......In other news, oil and coal executives oppose the Paris Treaty measures......Bottom line, the Paris Climate treaty is trash and once we refuse to sign it, a lot of other countries will pass on it as well. Canada withdrew from Kyoto---are they on the brink of failure? Is there some major series of news stories discussing the collapse of the Canadian economy I'm missing? The overreaction to a worthless treaty is amazing.

Again I'm looking at the larger message it sends to the rest of the world. The message is that we are taking our marbles and going home.

This... how many of those companies were already "grandfathered in"? Or given a ton of time to make adjustments to the regulations in place, and various extensions to those regs.

Whereas new companies have to follow the regs from day 1. The old guard loves that..keeps them in place, with no new competition.

That's fine if you support it. Just understand that it means we no longer want to lead the world.

Agree. Pulling out draws unnecessary attention when we could quietly ignore it instead and yet still maintain a more respectable international presence.

The place where it will impact us will depend on what other countries do with cap-and-trade or carbon taxes. If what we do there is incompatible, it can create some trade issues.
