ACC potential
ACC could do something not done since Pac- 8 in 72-73.

I know it has its fans but does NCAA baseball really matter? Yeah, it's bigger than lacrosse but it doesn't remotely compare to football or men's basketball. I think the ACC has already won the championships that matter.

Interesting ... since 1972-73 ....

Miami's 44 year streak started that year ... and was snapped this year ... maybe that's an omen for the ACC to sweep the 3 big sports this year.

I see Maryland on that list too. Kinda throws water on the flame thread on the CR board about Maryland not adding anything to the B1G.

Personally I am not a big baseball fan. For me lax > baseball. But it has more to do with this feat not being done since 72. Baseball was the national pastime. So it's important in a historical context.

The ACC certainly has contenders & it would be a tremendous accomplishment but it's still a long road to Omaha.

I think it does hold value. I'd put the championships like this:

Football

Basketball

Baseball

Hockey
Lacrosse/Soccer

I like college baseball, but it has little value. Value wise, ranking is like this:

Football

Basketball

Baseball

Hockey
Lacrosse/Soccer

If we're being totally honest, the value is something like this:

Football

Basketball

Baseball

Minor quibble, but I'd put a few more blank lines between baseball and hockey. Take a look at the interest level in the NCAA for both sports, how widely it's played, and how many postseason games are televised for each sport.

Yeah ... you could probably put women's basketball ahead of hockey too, honestly. Where that is big, it definitely generates revenue.

UConn's campus?

I'm sure UConn makes nice money from their women's program.

But I know U of L has a healthy season ticket subscriber base for it's women's hoops, and U of L only has 1 or 2 games a season where they charge for tickets for baseball. (Heck, I think the women's volleyball team charges for season tickets. So they may do more than baseball, but I don't want to get sidetracked.)

I would have to guess that the U of L women's hoops team does a lot more for the bottom line at U of L than any of the other sports, outside of football and men's hoops of course. If U of L's women's hoops team generates revenue, I have to imagine that the 10-15 historically bigger/better women's programs do too.
