LSU tourney tickets, etc.
I seek information, if anyone is in a position to know and cares to illuminate me.

First, I'm a baseball season ticker holder and an Owl Club donor of, let's say, a fairly decent contribution level. Does anyone know whether this entitles one to obtain/at least bid on, Rice block series tickets at LSU? If so, who to contact? (No info on the Rice ticket web page). PS, did not get around to joing RBI club this year...

Hotel...anybody know the ID of the team hotel? Is there a Rice rate available?

Finally, I've been to Baton Rouge for a ball game for many year. What kind of protection should the rational Rice visitor carry? (By this I don't mean Trojans.) I'm thinking a nice Glock .45 caliber (good Czech make) should be sufficient, but if we happen to beat the Conasse in a championship game, an AR-15 might be more appropriate for self defense....recommendations?

(Sorry, Ranger...I just don't like those people, especially when they're drunk, which is all the time...)

Team hotel not yet revealed. Still waiting.

Here's the ticket request form: http://www.riceowls.com/ot/baseball-regi...0_65272702

I believe allocation based on Owl Club level; not RBI Club.

Can only speak for myself, but we found the LSU fans sitting around us quite gracious last year. Still, we all the SEC and Tiger chants from the sold-out crowd, it's quite the hostile environment in which to play.

Inside the Box, a smaller type .380 will suffice. However, outside the Box (say after 10pm) I recommend a larger caliber. 9mm or .45 should work fine. One variable is the number of possible assailants. If multiple, I prefer a modified Hog's leg. The scatter pattern is better.

Several years ago, a group of Rice couples went to Baton Rouge for the Supers, which we won! At the end of the last game, one of the wives commented to an older LSU couple that they had been nice hosts. Their reply was, "Don't come back for football, we aren't nice then!"

Take mosquito repellent by the bucket load, especially with the current rain.

On more than one occasion on trips to Red Stick, especially for outdoor stuff, I'm surprised I didn't have to be hospitalized for anemia due to the Cajun butterflies that abound there during wet times.

LSU has a reputation for drunk football fans. Saturday's Children mentioned wearing helmets to go out the tunnel due to flying bottles in 1971. I did not notice it that much in 1979 when I did go to a game there.

They aren't nice, but Tiger Stadium on Saturday night is one of the truly great atmospheres for a football game.

Distinct memory: I'm sitting there, yelling at my date (obviously sitting next to me) at the top of my lungs, AND SHE CAN'T HEAR ME.

I so miss the LSU series. That was the one game that felt like big time football.

I went to an LSU game (Coach O's first, at night vs. Missouri) this past season as a neutral observer and I didn't think the fans were particularly hostile to opposition.

No worse than I've seen at several other venues. Maybe it was because the team was slightly downtrodden or because the game was a blowout (41-7 LSU W)... Or maybe because I don't remember that much of it...

Even at Rice Stadium, the LSU, A&M and Texas games were the ones that felt like big time football because they would bring their own fans. The LSU game was always a Saturday night game whether here or there. Almost all LSU home games were night games.

That was before TV networks dictated start times. Rice never had played a day game at home before October.

That's correct. The day games were scheduled for the (presumably) cooler weather, not the late August or September games

By now everyone should have been informed. For anyone who didn't get tickets, our group (6 tickets in all via two request forms) may have a couple extra seats available-- and certainly one for sure for Friday's game.

I think it was a 7PM start for September most of October. The 1:30PM games began around Halloween (Tech or Arkansas games).

One of my former roommates is a baseball season ticket holder. He can't make it this weekend so he put in a timely request (and was going to give me the tickets). There was nothing left in the Rice block when they got to him (apparently he needs to contribute more $$ in addition to his holding season tickets!), but I was able to reserve bleacher tickets, which will be upgraded to the Rice block if seats are available (some seem likely to be available if the player allotment does not max out).
