RE: C-USA Semifinals: vs Charlotte
Anyone's guess who we start tonight. .

I'd say just give the ball the Stevens, who is a senior and has at least pitched well in mop-up. Maybe Nelms? Carroll probably shouldn't see action in a game where the margin is single-digits again this year.

Probably doesn't matter, as the max we could hope for from any of them is three solid innings

Wish there was a way Hayden Roberts could get a share of this win. Held Charlotte at bay while our offense struggled.

Sandlin goes to 9-1. I don't recall us ever having two double-digit winners in pitching.

If Stevens can go 3 innings without melting down, that'd be great. Maybe get Nelms in an inning or 2. Davis is an option, as well as Wallner.

Really do worry about playing 6 games (if we win tonight) in 5 days leading up to regionals. Berry and Federico must be very careful with the pitchers. McCarty, Braley, and Roberts need to be off limits. Sandlin and Keys probably too.

I honestly wish we could just end the tournament now--with momentum and not exhausting our staff.

I'm not saying that I want us to lose tonight. But I'm not going to be very upset if we do. This is a definite high risk-low reward situation here.

Agree on the three you mentioned being off limits. McCarty and Braley: Hell no. For me, Roberts would be my #4 starter...so, I'm not using him after throwing 70+ today.

If I'm Berry, Sandlin is done. MAYBE one or two batters if we get through to tomorrow but no more after that, no matter the situation. Two appearances and 62 pitches in the last three days. He's not efficient in terms of pitch count, so it isn't like you can plan on just bringing him in for a quick, easy inning.

I would be alright throwing Keys for about 20-30 pitches tomorrow. I'm still skeptical of his value in regional play.

I could see Smith throwing a couple of innings tomorrow...unless Berry is planning on using him in the first or second round of the regional.

But especially tonight, this is a situation where you are just giving the ball to your usual mop-up guys and hoping they can get through some innings and the offense can keep up.

Actually Smith can go tomorrow . Tomorrow would be his full bullpen day anyway. Which means about 60-70 pitches.

I would throw Smith next Friday. Maybe give him 2-3 innings in a game tomorrow but that's it.

Apparently Tweedy did not travel with the team this week. Don't know why. Was thinking he could throw an inning or two.

Agreed. Friday is a long time from now. These guys are throwing a lot in between outings. They will be fine by next weekend. Guarantee you Rice is throwing their Wednesday guy, if not their Thursday guy.

Prevailing wisdom is that we will start our Wednesday guy, Matt Canterino on three days rest. He threw 7.2 against FAU on Wednesday. Then, we will go from there (probably to Glenn Otto if we have a lead to protect).

The only guy who won't be available is Willy Amador, who pitched 6.0 today.

Zach Esquivel, who was the winning pitcher in the Saturday game of the series vs. USM @Rice, pitched 4.1 on Thursday and could probably pitch a couple innings if need be.

Certainly expect a heavy dose of Canterino and Otto tomorrow regardless of who wins tonight.

Would be the opposite of 2010 and 2013 where we had to win and Rice was a regional lock.

Ha, I like Southern Miss but with Stanford sweeping Wazzu I think they'll get the national seed, so I'll be rooting like hell for Charlotte tonight as I think they're an easier out. Please don't take offense.

The problem with yall is that even with a depleted staff, you can hit the ball so well that you can stay in it.

We can put up some runs against Canterino/Otto but probably won't able to score at will. 5-6 runs probably wouldn't be enough with our pitching situation.

Who knows though, we got to Canterino a little in the regular season. And obviously Otto was miserable against us in that Sunday game.
