RE: Greg transferring
Looking at a starting lineup of Cohn, Milon, Pierce, Rowley, Knight. Burch 6th man. Very little depth after that.

Is there any confirmation of this? Or maybe confirmation that he's staying?

RE: Greg transferring
If true then he would have to sit 1 year and then only have 1 year to play.

This isn't good at all.

It's not a good trend to have two guys leave, but TBH I can't say I was ever really impressed by his play. Not great for depth purposes, but this does not hurt as much as Whitman does.

RE: Greg transferring
Same situation as Whitman. Younger talent overtook him on the depth chart. It could also indicate that Tot may move to another position with Lowe coming in. I'd have no problem having Oliver playing 1, 2, or 3 in the rotation. You would have a tougher, and more defensive minded line up. We have zero depth now, and as much as I agree that Greg didn't overwhelm, he could light up the scoreboard when he was hot.

RE: Greg transferring
If true this is truly stunning and, in his case, the loss of an experienced starter who, with David Cohn,
was a team co-captain for next season.

Malinowski did not graduate this spring and, by leaving, will never graduate W&M in exchange for one year, after laying out a full year, at another school. Makes little sense for him no matter where he's going to.

Malinowski had some very good games in the latter quarter of the season and would have been a ten point plus a game scorer for us....very good home games against C of C and Towson. We didn't see the complete player until the latter part as he had a slow recovery from his concussion. Nobody overtook him last year as a starter and he will be missed.

If this is true it really roils the program and puts extreme pressure on our recruiting. What is going on here?

RE: Greg transferring
This leaves us currently with 9 scholarship players for next year plus Glover and Mustafa.

Wow. This is unreal. So much stability for so long and then 3 transfers in 6 months. What's going on?

Good luck coaches in pulling a rabbit or 2 out of a hat in these next few weeks/months. We need more players one way or another. Anybody on the board have any eligibility left - might be an open tryout coming.

One thing is for sure, for any class of 2017 or grad transfers still out there, there is lots of PT available, we need some bodies 6-6 or bigger, and Jihar and Luke are going to get a lot of run next year, especially Luke as we are going to need Tot on the wing/post for sure.

I think people are underestimating the loss of Greg, but I could be wrong. He had a rough year last year, but he's a good player.

Outside of that, don't we have to start to worry that there's a lot of smoke? I don't know what it is, but to be down to 9 scholarship players is pretty worrisome.

This is now a five alarm dumpster fire! We can't get anyone to verbally commit to us...and now this. Time to put some blame on Shaver for this? Maybe Greg wants some COA money? Either way, next season just got even LONGER!

RE: Greg transferring
I agree, but my guess is that Pierce and Rowley were going to start over Greg.

Let's go back to last fall and go over what has transpired. Seacat gets suspended and transferred. Rumors of him being treated as an outcast surfaced. Next we have leadership issues with Dixon and Prewitt and both get benched for a game, and Cohn sits most of the second half after playing poorly. Next Whitman bails out. Next Malinowski leaves. There is definitely something wrong. I just don't know if it was a team divide or Shaver or both. It is clear to me that he favors some players over others and Knight and Pierce are two of them along with Cohn. It was obvious in his post game comments, etc.

RE: Greg transferring
Losing Greg is a big loss, even if it's just for depth, there is no way around that. He was primed to break out after his Soph year, especially the CAAT he had that year, but with the injury and who knows what else, last year just never came together.

I had high hopes for him for sure this year. The next few weeks will be telling for sure to see what we can add if anything. Without knowing all the details behind the scenes, I know we are all frustrated and surprised to a degree, but I don't think we can just automatically start throwing a coach/staff under the bus when they have a really good and extended track record and we don't have all the info.

Absolutely there needs to be accountability and absolutely something is up, but for me at least, Coach Shaver has earned the benefit of the doubt for running a really good program so far with minimal support from the administration.

What is without question is that we are now at the defining moment of the immediate future of our men's basketball program and we will either fall apart or come closer together through adversity and come out stronger on the other side.

I agree on Shaver having benefit of the doubt. He has a tough has a tough hand dealt to him for next season. My only hope is that somehow we're scouting Euro/foreign players that aren't showing up on Twitter

RE: Greg transferring
One could argue the lack of Senior leadership from last season is the primary cause of all of these events transpiring. Those experienced voices can pull guys together and make each understand their role, decreasing thoughts that they are left out. Many prior recruits joined WM because they stated that it was "a family" etc. Without that feeling keeping them here, they might focus more on the negatives and start thinking about other possibilities.

Why the need to blame anyone? These are 18-22 year old males making these decisions. Enough said.

Five alarm dumpster fire? Over-react much?

While the bench will be thin, the talent on the 2017-2018 team stacks up well with most W&M men's hoops teams over the past 50 years.

You've been spoiled by the last four years.

Now you know why I banged that drum so hard for post-season play for the past four years. The future is guaranteed to no man...and to no program.

If the chemistry problems from 2016-2017 have been solved, I'm looking forward to the 2017-2018 edition.

I was hoping to see Greg starting next year. I am not sure why he would be willing to sit out a year. Although I have no inside information, this decision seems to be non-basketball related.

Guys, the fact is the future of our program is and always was the class of Knight, Pierce, and Milon. We have 3 years of these guys and they should all see heavy minutes next year. That's going to be invaluable in the long run. Also Rowley, we have left for 2 years, he will get big minutes. And the 2 freshmen will play more than expected. All this experience will set us up well when they are upperclassmen.

RE: Greg transferring
Greg must've seen the writing on the wall. Shaver has always said he wanted Pierce to take over for Prewitt when he graduated and I think Rowley often outperformed Greg last year. In my mind Greg should've came off the bench this next year.
