From what someone explained to me: they have total control on broadcast rights and access to ODU on TV, the Web and Radio. Yes they give money to the school but they also pay dividends to their owners/principles. I feel this is a waste of money. Rights fees that should be going to ODU gets siphoned off to people not really associated with ODU. Not sure how other schools do this, but at my core I do not like this arrangement.
Eh. It's not all that different than what Learfield or IMG do other places. Learfield and IMG do a better job IMHO but outsourcing the media operation to someone else isn't a horrible idea.

ODUSP might be technically separate from the university but that might have more to do with laws regarding state schools. While separated, they are very close to the university. Their office is in the athletic administration building, down the hall from Selig's. They are mostly local, even some ODU grads, they all live here. NOW, I'm not saying there couldn't be improvements but they are not the typical 3rd party outsourced consultant firm. They are very much involved with the school on a daily basis.

If I could give back I would. I'm 26 now living in Richmond and I'm still working on a career. Once I pay things I have enough money just for me to semi enjoy life. Lol give me about 5 years. I'm sad. The last odu football game I went to was when we beat la tech..

Again, even $5 makes a difference. If we had 1000 new alumni commit to $5 each year we would see ODUs reputation increase.
The school should or could go the NPR route. A gift a X level of donation.
Personally I feel that they dropped the ball by not giving something to the folks that bought tickets to the bowl game or the season ticket holders. A car sticker or yard sign would serve double duty by also advertising for the school.
As for big donars. How many or who are ODU grads that have given to ODU?
Strom gave a good chunk but it was with money he earned thanks to his master's degree education from a different instutiin that put him in that situation.
I might be wrong but I think the dollar tree folks are not ODU grads either correct?
I know a few ODU millionaires (A club I am not in). I don't thank any donate to the University though.
It should probably be noted, that I think there is a difference between giving to the school and giving to athletics (like ODAF). I think its giving to the school that is counted in the academic rankings etc. I believe since ODAF money all goes strictly to sports, it is not considered.

Patricia Perry, 1/2 of the Dollar Tree duo, attended ODU as a non-traditional student. She got her degree in Clinical Psychology, if memory serves.

Somewhat off topic, but I saw JMU shirts in Target in Maryland this weekend. Surprisingly, no Towson. Not sure I've ever seen an ODU shirt for sale up here. Maybe an occasional hat.

Virginia Tech updated their academic logo. One word: UGLY!
Thats for academics and not athletics?
Yuck either way.
yup

Not gonna lie, I liked VT's old athletic and academic look a lot more. The athletics font was pretty simplistic and block letters and numbers are overused, but it worked for them. Their new fonts look really forced, and the new academic logo is a case of them fixing something that wasn't broken.
But then again, it's not my alma mater, so I guess it doesn't matter what I think lol

I agree with you 100%. Hopefully this turns into the UC system disaster and their alum revolt.
I like VT and might go there for grad school or at least do the commonwealth graduation engineering program .. even if I don't I'll have to look at the logo via alum stickers on their cars.
