Ok, I'll bite. In LU last 6 remaining games, I'm guessing 4-2. What's your prediction and let's hear from others?

First of all, I was just following along the thread where LUbball23 made the following post:

(10-07-2017 04:37 PM)LUbball23 Wrote:  Presbyterian beat SFU. Presby%{*]%terian. I told y’all SFU was trash.

Gill is good as gone. Liberty will be lucky to win 3 more games after this I mean PC isn’t even a guarantee win anymore.

armymike56 followed that up with his post:

I was just pointing out that I think armymike56's prediction is less bold than LUbball23's. Despite our struggles, I think we should win all our remaining games. That doesn't mean I think we will win, but I'd give us the edge going forward. I'd predict somewhere between 4-2 and 5-1 going forward. Kennesaw State, Monmouth, and Charleston Southern are the potential hangups I see.

Time to stir the pot. 05-stirthepot

Liberty should give Mike Houston a serious look. Great HC who has turned a few programs around. He's a winner. I'm guessing he is going to a FBS school next season. Offer him an interview.

Any other coaches the LU faithful think would be a great HC for the future?

Who is Mike Houston?

It's tough to find info on spectacular coaches who fit the Liberty mission.

I believe Mike Houston is JMU's head coach.

He is and I would be all in for him. The guy has won everywhere he has coached.

He has coached/played at a few religious schools. These schools were Lenoir–Rhyne University, Brevard College, and Mars Hill University. He might be open to coaching at a Christian school. Another benefit is that he is currently in state.

I imagine he will leave JMU after the season, or even towards the end. I don't think LU could hire him as he could go somewhere higher than Liberty.

How much higher? P5 jobs don't normally go after FCS coaches the last big time FCS coach to leave was NDSU and he went to Wyoming. Not that drastic of a difference. I think Liberty would be a potential spot depending on the money. Offer 1.5-2 million and he will bolt.

What if he wants to play for conference championships? Liberty can't offer that. What if he wants to coach at an established FBS school? Liberty can't offer that. What if Liberty were up against UCF, App State, Georgia Southern, Boise State, or Memphis? I think those schools have a good chance to either lose a coach or fire a coach by the end of the year and would definitely be ahead of Liberty in the pecking order for Houston and other coaches.

App and GS can't offer that money. The only real competition there would be is UCF and Boise. LU could easily out spend them too. I'm not denying LU is behind but I don't see the G5 teams as better destinations. LU is G5 level now and has way more money to spend if they decide he would be worth it.

RE: Gill - does Gill go or stay
Money isn't everything. If someone sees this as a dead end job then they won't take it. Gill will probably end up fired by Liberty. Rocco left for a lateral job. The previous coach was fired if I remember correctly. Liberty isn't a place to build a resume.

Would you want to hire someone who only goes to the highest bidder? I wouldn't want a mercenary coaching staff but rather a loyal one.

You have to have the absolute right personality with the desire to live by the Liberty mission.

Because your recruiting pool will be smaller.

We will have to really open our wallet to entice a good coaching staff to Liberty.

What about Bob Nielson at South Dakota? He has turned every place he went to into a national championship contender.

Nielson looks like a good coach. He has indeed turned every place he went into a national championship contender. He has won 2 DII national championships in 2008 and 2010. He looks like the type of coach who will be a FBS coach soon.

I have some questions and possible concerns. His coaching is out of area (not near VA). Is he the type of coach who would like to coach at a religious school? His age could be a factor. He is currently 58. Compare that to Mike Houston who is about 46. How will he do the rest of the year in the MVFC? He will have to face NDSU. If he does well, that is a good sign.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Nielson

In conclusion, I think he should be on a short list for the HC job.

Another name I have seen mentioned is Bill Clark. Seems like a good person and good coach.

RE: Gill - does Gill go or stay
I would like Bill Clark but I don't expect him to want to come to Liberty. I bet his next stop will be in the AAC or a P5.

I don't know if Bob Nielson would be a good hire. I imagine he has a Midwestern recruiting profile and hasn't worked along the Atlantic in some time (if ever). He has a history of success which would hopefully lead to getting the recruits. I would rather get someone who can recruit Texas, Florida, and the surrounding areas well. Gill and his staff have been doing well in that regards but the on-field results weren't there.

Just say no to Art Briles.

RE: Gill - does Gill go or stay
A couple of names Liberty should look at if Gill is gone.

Mike Houston JMU. If available, Liberty could at mininum triple his salary and afford to bring his staff. Double bonus, you get to have JMU hast you even more. I think he is P5 bound. Liberty going in knowing it would be a stepping stone, but hey it could work well for both parties.
Jim Leavett - Built USF from nothing.
Paul Petrino - Can't be happy going back to FCS.
Steve Addazio - If Boston College fires, great defensive coach and would get more support than he ever did at BC.
Jake Spavital- West Virginia offensive coordinator. See Mike Houston.
Curt Cignetti - Elon Football Coach
