Mike Houston JMU. If available, Liberty could at mininum triple his salary and afford to bring his staff. Double bonus, you get to have JMU hast you even more. I think he is P5 bound. Liberty going in knowing it would be a stepping stone, but hey it could work well for both parties.
Jim Leavett - Built USF from nothing.
Paul Petrino - Can't be happy going back to FCS.
Steve Addazio - If Boston College fires, great defensive coach and would get more support than he ever did at BC.
Jake Spavital- West Virginia offensive coordinator. See Mike Houston.
Curt Cignetti - Elon Football Coach

Curt Cignetti is a good suggestion. Has a good track record has a HC so far. Would like to see how he does for the rest of the year as this is his first year at the FCS level. He has some good wins in his first year. It might be a risk to take a HC with only one year of HC experience in the FCS. I like his background at Alabama.

Mike Houston is definitely at the top of my wish list. He is young and a winner. He has coached/played at some religious schools. He is a coach that I think will be in the FBS next year. Nice plus is that he is currently in VA.

Cignetti has a history with NCSU. He was an excellent coach on the staff. I think he will become a hot coaching prospect in the near future. Also, I am not sure why EWG is against Steve Addazio. His defense is excellent. Also, a unknown stat, 8 of his 12 AAC wins are on the road. Imagine what a team with fans that show up to the game coud do. Him taking BC 3 bowls in his first 4 years at BC really is impressive. BC is the only school I thought the ACC made a mistake in expansion. Really wished the ACC had taken WVU instead of BC out of the Big East. But the ACC was holding onto the illusion of they put academics above atheletics. Especially while Univeristy of No Classes was going full boar. 03-lmfao

My issue with Steve is he hasn't really done anything impressive. His best record was 9-4 in his first year at Temple. He has never done better than 7 wins at BC. You know what you are getting with him. I'd rather go get an up and comer. Even if they used LU as a stepping stone job.

Houston - I like, but not realistic.
Leavett - Would be great but I'm not excited to hire someone who was fired for hitting a player and lying about it. We don't need more outrage thrown our way after hiring McCaw.
Petrino - I really admire what he's done at Idaho. I'd love him even more if his last name wasn't Petrino. He's high on my list and is likely realistic.
Addazio - I'm not thrilled with him. He seems like a fallback option.
Spavital - Doesn't do much for me. Likely will hold out for a P5 coaching position but who knows. Wouldn't be my first coordinator I'd try to hire but may be the most realistic.
Cignetti - Don't know much about him. Seems alright so why not?

I'll tell you one you're overlooking, Mickey Matthews. Wins the games he's supposed to win. Strong defensive mind. Knows Liberty's recruiting region. Has beat Liberty every time he's coached against you. Would be great through these tough years you have ahead, not just next season, but face it, for about five years, this is going to be tough. He's not leaving for greener pastures, when the program is ready, he'll retire.

Mickey has a good track record but CCU has looked terrible with him. I think if he were taken it would be a 3 year max type of thing. I still think IM will take an up and comer.

RE: Gill - does Gill go or stay
The team is so inconsistent. One minute they are moving the ball with ease and the next three processions are three and outs. Our defense (if you can call it that) can't stop anyone. We can't play a complete game where both the offense and defense play well. And what is wrong with our extra points? The team is falling apart. Bring in a new coaching staff who can make the most with our star quarterback and fix our defense. We can't beat FCS teams but expect to beat FBS teams.

Just hope it's not as rough as CCU and ODU, getting a great coach and recruiter will help in this.

Mickey is not even on our radar and won't be. He does have some Texas ties otherwise he doesn't have strong recruiting tes where we typically focus on the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida.

It would be tough to get my mind around a Petrino as our head coach. I live too close to Arkansas and remeber the mess his brother made in Fayetteville.

Another name I have seen mentioned is Troy Walters (UCF OC). Young coach (40) working with a high powered offense. He has connections to the state of Texas and Florida.

Here’s my list of names (so far) that I like to different degrees. Each has advantages and disadvantages.

Bill Clark (UAB HC)
Bob Nielson (South Dakota HC)
Brandon Streeter (Clemson Assistant)
Curt Cignetti (Elon HC)
Mike Houston (JMU HC)
Troy Walters (UCF OC)

Bill yes but unlikely
Bob is my choice
Brandon is a gamble but could be a homerun
Curt would be solid
Mike would be awesome but I think he will go somewhere bigger
Troy is like Brandon but more of a risk.

I wonder how realistic Bo Pelini would be. He did well at Nebraska but they have unrealistic expectations each year. He's doing well at Youngstown State. That doesn't fit the southeastern area that we want though.

He is making a little over 200k. I suggested him on aseaofred but got shot down. I like him even if he isn't very likable. The guy can coach. Another coach for the people wanting a 5 year coach would be Mike Ayers at Wofford. He has been there since 1988 so he might not want to leave. He is 69 but is a coach that knows the game and has been moderately successful. They are playing good ball this year. He wouldn't be the long term guy but I'm confident he could guide us through the transition.

RE: Gill - does Gill go or stay
At 11:48 of a 13:37 minute interview with Jerry Falwell, Jr., he is asked about Turner Gill's future at Liberty. The answer given does not warm my heart. The vibe I get is that Jerry wants to keep Gill based upon the highs of his accomplishments here (beating Baylor, the first LU coach to make the playoffs and then win a playoff game) and what he brings to the team beyond wins and losses. It very much sounds like Gill is the coach for the rest of 2017 but beyond that is anyone's guess.

Liberty beat writer mentions the interview and his take. It's a good read and perspective on things.

Jerry Jr.'s statement was the appropriate answer, and Damian's analysis is pretty good and respectful. I don't think it's wise or professional for the University President or the Press to be speaking publicly about the Coach's demise while the season still has 4 games left. We SHOULD win the remaining 4 games, but I don't think they'll be enough to save Gill's job. Personally, I'm a fan of his, but he needs to be replaced.

The President shouldn't make those statements but why not the Media? That is kind of their job. To talk about things relevant to a particular topic. I would like to see some media members talking hypothetical situations about LU but it never happens. Every major program has media doing that why are we different?

RE: Gill - does Gill go or stay
I think it is fair for the media to criticize a college coach's on-field performance to a certain degree. I don't think it is unfair to speculate whether or not a coach will be fired. The media needs to report facts and to produce material that the masses would want to read. As long as they aren't fabricating stories or spreading rumors then speculation and what-ifs are appropriate given the proper context.

I love what Gill offers the team in everything but on-field performance which is unfortunately for him the most important category. It's great the kids do well in the classroom, they stay out of trouble off the field, he's done great recruiting, but the team looks completely unprepared at times and very undisciplined. This is his sixth year I believe and the team isn't getting better. We've plateaued and are now going downhill. If we want a culture of winning we must demand more from our team. Look at Georgia Southern. They just fired a coach halfway through his second year because he wasn't up to where he needed to be for the program while we have Jerry on record saying that Gill took the team to the playoffs and won a playoff game so since that's better than the previous coach then he's doing great. Jerry, you hired the AD so let him make the calls and only come in to veto stupid decisions like hiring Art Briles.
