In his other 10 appearances (5 starts):
23 IP, 26 ER, 33 H, 15 BB, 8 wild pitches
It doesn't seem like this has just been a slump. I don't think there's been anything wrong with him other than the fact that he's a guy relying on a really good breaking pitch to overcome control problems facing D1 competition.
He will throw well against undisciplined lineups that can't hit and chase curveballs. Otherwise, he struggles to control his fastball and teams can either walk or wait to tee off on it when he puts it over the plate.
Not saying he can't pitch well against good D1 lineups. He hasn't, though.
Good news for tonight: SELA ranks 237th in hitting.
hence, the point previously made....
if he would simply target the center with that breaking ball to outside belt/knee level, he's fine...toss in a few heaters and off-speed pitches and he's en fuego...
kid can hum it....it's only a matter of him believing.....
