From what I gather from posts here and tidbits elsewhere it looks like non-con home slate is
S. Illinois
Delaware St
TROY
Ft. Wayne
High Point
2-3. Non D1s
Thoughts?
Is that the Salukis in Carbondale or SIU Edwardsville from the OVC?
If it's Southern Illinois, it's the Salukis.

So the NCAA will be putting more emphasis on road wins, not just total number of wins/losses for the tournament brackets. I wonder if this provides a chance for teams like ETSU to get some quality home games in the future from SEC type teams. If Kentucky knows that they will beat us, why not go on the road and get the win and the road points also?

Yeah, I'm sure Calipari's already made that call. But really, this truly should help some. But UK isn't coming here. It may get them to go to somewhere like Butler, Dayton, Marquette (The ETSU of the North), or Purdue - something like that where they can still get a road win *and* a great paycheck. But truthfully, that's not even likely for UK. Virtually all the odds are still stacked in their favor, and this isn't enough incentive to change their M.O. Now somebody like Ole Miss, or Ga. St., or a Richmond, George Washington, or Davidson.......yeah, maybe. Or somebody from the USA like MTSU, Marshall, or even WKU; that becomes a bit more possible. [The Salukis are a good get - although they were weaker than usual this past season.]
Without "doing the math", this appears to be a move that helps mid-majors, but it's not some tectonic shift. At least not at first glance.

They aren't guaranteed a road win at Purdue lol.

The Bucs are handcuffed. No good mid major or major wants to play in JC. Their chances of getting beat are to great. Also the lower mid majors and lower division schools are asking for big bucks to come to JC.
You wouldn't believe the number of schools that said 'no way'.

LOL. I specifically put that in there for you, dude. (Really.) And I know; although isn't Swanagin(sp?) gone now?
[editorial opinion: although he works like a maniac, I'm not sure his speed is NBA-level. He should be able to make a team, but I doubt seriously he'll be a star. (Now watch me be made a liar....)]

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
Looks like the Bucs are not on the Southern Illinois schedule.
http://www.siusalukis.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball
Here is a post from a college scheduling board;
"East Tennessee State. Need to start H&H at home and on the road...open to H/H same year or triangle. Need to get final home game first 2017-2018, Home & Home 2017-07-25"

That's not good news at all. As we already knew.....nobody wants to come here and play us. Tough road to hoe to get quality folks to visit. Such is the life of a successful mid-major. I know Forbes is trying; just ain't easy.

Well, as someone who's been known to josh around here before, certainly no offense taken. (But point taken, obviously!)
That said......can I try to make an (obviously) weak save by saying something like:
"Well, the roads wind tough and hard into the mountains of East Tennessee. Many a poor Power 5 team has found such a pathway has led to their undoing on the hardwood in the friendly confines of Johnson City. But the modern world has gradually seeped into the hollers thereabouts, and most roads are now actually paved. Thus, teams who long ago would have run roughshod over the landlocked Buccaneers, plowing them into submission, now find that road a much tougher one to hoe."?
LOL. And no, I do not make my living writing such copy. As is obvious.
Thanks for the literary assistance!

While it's true that scheduling has become more difficult - home and away - this is not bad news. N KY was a tourney team last year and gave KY a very good run in he dance. They're RPI was MUCH higher than either S Ill or High Point and they should be in the hunt for their conference title again this year. They obviously aren't afraid to come to JC and we didn't have to bribe them to do so. So overall a very good deal that I hope we can handle on the floor.

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
Well, I almost included that fact that they were indeed a tourney team. And yes, they had a pretty decent showing. My point was more that if the Salukis (if it was even supposed to be them originally) and High Point were supposed to come, and then backed out......well.....that just shows that there's a problem. That said, sure, there are many reasons they both may have withdrawn, and we'll likely never know them. And even if there *is* a "problem", it's not us - it's just that that's the way it is for good mid-majors trying to get quality home opponents. ("Tough road to hoe". lol)
And beyond that, even if the Norse had a higher RPI, the Salukis are a much bigger 'name' team with a rich hoops history. High Point's not 'there' yet, but have made nice strides - kinda like Winthrop did back in the 00's.

Happy to have the NKU Norse come to town, they aren't aware of our upgraded venue. Last time they were in JC, it was the old regime. They'll have a rude awakening

I still remember that 40 year-old looking dude banking a trey in at the dome. Here's to defending the castle at FH this year.
