WRs
For all our fears about the position, I thought our WRs looked great against ECU - far more impressive than the ECU WRs who were vaunted coming in.

REC YDS AVG TD LONG
David Eldridge 3 51 17.0 0 26
Ishmael Hyman 3 49 16.3 0 27
John Miller 4 42 10.5 0 17
Nick Carlton 3 38 12.7 1 17

David Eldridge impressed as did Ish and John. Even Nick Carlton did. Bryan did a great job of spreading it around. Imagine when we get Terrance back.

Also, on Cardon's 2nd long run - Ish did an amazing job of selling the pass - the CB followed him down field because he was pretending to call for the pass. Finally the CB realized and Ish hit him with a hard block.

RE: WRs
The ECU board was pretty heated at the DB for:

A) Following a WR 70 yards downfield without turning around on a running play
b) Immediately losing inside position once he figured it was a run and getting blocked out of the play

I think we got what we expected from Ish, Miller, and Eldridge. Carlton looks like he's going to be a legit TE and I don't think we have to worry about him fumbling again for the rest of the season.

Wait, they were acting like we committed some egregious uncalled penalty because our receiver expertly completed his blocking assignment on a TD play? Isn't that the point of the game of football?

RE: WRs
I was never really worried about our WRs. I think we have a good group and I still think it's ECU's strongest position. The only thing I'd say is I'm not sure we have that prototypical type of guy to stretch the field. Ish has done it a few times in his career and when we get Alls back we should be even better. I'm looking forward to seeing what Stapelton can do in the red zone. He just didn't get many targets on Saturday evening.

Thought Stapleton looked kind of slow. Didn't look as fluid or speedy as a Daniel Brown. Could have just been matched up against a very fast DB though. Their starting CBs both run sub 4.4s, so is speed there. Didn't see much separation. He was pretty good at getting in good blocks though.

I expect the Schor-to-Eldridge connection to heat up as the season progresses and they become more familiar with the timing.

Anyone else notice the PA announcer kept referring to Aldridge as Adu? Guess they didn't get the memo on the duplicate #s. Probably not the best idea to have two guys playing the same position having the same number.

Just rewatched the game. You're right, Stapleton looked a step slow compared to the guys covering him. He got several targets early, but honestly Schor just missed him on those throws. It looked like Brian was concentrating on putting the ball up high so that only Stapleton could grab it but just missed high.

I don't expect to see Stapleton used on downfield go routes too often. He's just not that type of player. He'll be the guy we go to when we need 8-10 yards on 3rd down.

Or if we need a high grab in the back of the end zone.

Nah, they were just upset at their DB for taking the bait and chasing our WR all the way down the field. Ish sold it well, they were peeved their DB didn't even turn around.

I noticed one of their trailing defenders was frantically trying to get that DBs attention downfield as he was chasing Cardon. Kind of funny. I think Cardon is a step faster than last season so he must have gone over and above on his rehab.

He was never 100% last year, at least that is what he told me.

Agreed - Cardon looked faster at ECU than I ever remember him. I always thought he was sort of the thunder to Abdullah's lightning. I though Marshall might be running more like we saw from Cardon - good on him for stepping it up after a tough injury. That is not easy, even when you're young. Respect!
