Nice discussion BUT. You will never get the different Conferences to agree on anything. Much less the massive and dramatic changes that we are talking about.
Only thing that could change that is MONEY!

I have a hard time imagining the NCAA legislating something which would undoubtedly have the result of killing a P5 conference. The B1G and SEC aren't going to expand by promoting G5 teams. They would poach P5 teams. If a P5 conference dies on its own as a result of market forces, then the NCAA might accommodate a desire for expanded conference tournaments. But they won't do it proactively.
