Now it's a question of, are they a registered sex offender, a murderer, assaulter, etc.... or did they steal someone's iphone once or got a DUI. It really depends on what it is.

That's what online education is for.

You make it sound like you market to no other students other than criminals to take LU online classes. I wonder what the average GPA is coming out of HS. Hmmmm.

I consider myself pretty politically progressive, but I can't reconcile the fact that colleges are using social media accounts as part of the admissions process (and in some cases rescinding offers), but somehow criminal history is off limits. Being offensive online is weighted heavier than actual criminal activity.

How did you come to the conclusion criminal history is "off limits" in the JMU admissions decision process? All students are asked to list any criminal history on the written application. It's been that way for years and years.

I suppose the point is that people do discriminate based on criminal history, even for smaller offenses. Employers will be weary to call an applicant in for an interview if they list anything. They almost expect it to be empty.

With that being said, it is necessary to screen certain types of crimes and make sure those persons aren't anywhere near your campus if you don't want your reputation to go downhill quickly.

I wasn't referring to JMU, but rather the trend mentioned in the article.

Here's the alternative perspective. http://www.communityalternatives.org/pdf...ssions.pdf

The idea of pushing the notification of conviction to after a conditional offer of admission seems to have some merit to me. It pushes the school towards deciding that maybe a student's otherwise excellent portfolio, that merited an acceptance offer, counterbalances whatever the crime was.

More so the idea that sex offenders and the like should do online...not on campus.

Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing something about that policy on Liberty's website...

I'm disappointed that so many JMU fans are so obsessed with their hatred of LU. Speaks volumes about some on here.

Liberty's existence doesn't bother me in the least. It's not my school. I have other fish to fry. Frankly, all the protesting and people being offended is getting real tiresome.

I hope you aren't referencing me, this was lighthearted fun and anyone who takes it serious needs to have a beer or a cup of coffee with me. The most important factor was that we totally played off of the words from a LU fan. I see little difference in this and my making fun of Alger wearing a cowboy hat. Even the greatest admin apologizers haven't defended that one. By the way, though not a LU fan at all, I do enjoy the word of God presented though Jonathan Falwell.

C'mon dude, this was done without malice. I could have totally spewed venom if I really hated them. I wouldn't condemn a university and their students for the shortcomings of their leadership.

Take JMU for example, I don't take potshots at everyone who has attended or worked under Alger. Only the mini Sean Spicers on here constantly falling on their swords defending him. Which is actually quite comical at times.

People getting offended by comments from others who are "offended" by liberty is hilarious irony.

I am an atheist, open minded and I don't care if men jump in the sack with men. Yet, I let LU go about their ways.

Liberty has a right to believe whatever they want to believe.
