If you don't agree with a group's social or political positions, how can you possibly justify giving a group a single dollar to help fund the promotion of those positions? If someone did that, they would be donating to a group in direct contrast to their own beliefs.
And that is exactly why I stopped being a Flames Fan member with an athletic financial contribution. And also why I resigned as a mod for the LU board after JFJr antics about the Muslim ban and advocating concealed carry permits on campus. Really dumb stances. And I can still root for them to play well and cheer their on field play. Can someone be a fan of a team and not a follower of all their positions? Plus in the past I have hired many LU athletes (wrestlers, FB, BB players) in my business. They were all good, honest, polite, respectful and dependable kids. All of them.

Yeah, this thread is appropriate for a sports board. Anyone care to discuss gun rights, immigration, or have a full blown religious discussion? Wow.

#odu has announced it will open the 2018 football season at Liberty. Monarchs hosted Flames in 2013. Hope to play often, Bobby Wilder said.

Yeah right Bobby that's exactly what we want

I'd rather ODU play them as fellow FBS opponents than the likes of FCS schools they have been opening up against. Those FBS wins tell little about the abilities of ODU going forward and are just hollow victories.

Were they smart kids too, or did they support those "really dumb stances" that you referred to? Over the years I have known several people that have attended LU, and am glad that ODU has scheduled them since they are moving up to play FBS football.

I like any instate match ups! It gives us a chance to smother the fire before it tries to engulfs on the recruiting trail in the coming years.

Anyone else find it concerning our Athletic Department spelled "Virginia" as "Virgina" in the first paragraph of the release (in Bobby's quote)

Good, last away game I attended was NC State. Looks like I'll get to go to another. For those whining, it's a day trip drivable football game. I'm Catholic and they think less of us than atheists. Pretty sure Jesus isn't going to be burning you with holy water from thed skies.

A huhhhh to the first part of your reply. They were typical 19-22 year old kids if that answers your question.

RE: ODU will open 2018 Football at Liberty
I went to Liberty for a year and then got two degrees at ODU. People are people in general. ODU folks probably drink more beer and pray less... but we all live in the same country, same state and love college football. That's probably where we should leave it.
I can tell you this, if ODU is Liberty's first FBS home game they will roll out the red carpet for us.... the campus will be BUZZING for weeks before the game, and they will do everything in their power to beat us.... and they will show the team and the fans respect afterward. Their fanbase kind of reminds me of William & Mary and Hampton, nice people that are very helpful and will shake your hand at the end of the contest.

I think it makes sense in that it is a close venue(easier travel for fans, less travel costs for ODU) it's seemingly a winnable game that counts as an FBS win which means we still get to play an FCS team.

Frankly, we need a rival that is close by. With the disdain some of our fans apparently have for Liberty, the opportunity seems to be there if they can build their program. God knows they have the money to do it (oops that punny). I'm all for games against FBS teams in our state. Its a hell of a lot better than playing Hampton, NSU, and Albany, or traveling to Eastern Michigan Buffalo IMO.

A good home thrashing by ODU at LU, and then later a thrashing by LU at ODU, is the easiest way to build a budding rivalry.

RE: ODU will open 2018 Football at Liberty
I'm as far away politically/ideologically from Liberty as it comes but I want to play them in Lynchburg (mainly for selfish convenience reasons). That said, I hope we got a good payout for the reshuffling. If it's a million, then good move for sure. What happen to the Buffalo game though?

Edit: POTUS is a douche. I watched the Army/Navy game last year, he made some backhanded comments about their programs. What a fuckhead.

What does any of that have to do with us taking a buy game from a school that has yet to play a game as an FBS team? Selig said we wouldn't take buy games. And yet, here we are.
