Steve,

Barnes is a difference maker. He'll be picked up shortly. Wish him well.

He is headed to ECU for his final year.

What's the point? Something specific at ECU related to his major, or grad school?

Won't help at all with NFL dreams. AAC barely a step up from MAC. A punter is a punter. The numbers tell the story, not whether he's in the MAC or the AAC.

Strange.
Agreed, must be something else to the story.

I agree.

He does get a chance to do some 'big stage' games in 2017: Va Tech, BYU, and WVU.

Barnes is from Illinois. Correct?

According to this they were 3 - 9 in 2016.

It's very strange. I don't see any benefit to this move to help his football future.

We should not underestimate his contribution. He routinely helped the team's field position and losing him is a big loss.

We will miss him more than folks think... He is a possible NFL punter.

Two we may be looking at Austin McGehee Fullerton or Brandon Heicklen moorpark in terms of juco punters

Guess it all depends on how good (or bad) his replacement is. Hopefully we'll have forgotten his name by mid-season.

Maybe this October but not October 2018 if he is kicking in the NFL.

Bob, aren't you through polishing Keno's single trophy? Maybe you can do his kitchen floors next.

Yes we're discussing Eastern Michigan football and the departure of a very good punter and who might replace him. I know that's mind boggling to you that people on this board would actually discuss Eastern Michigan football in an intelligent manner rather than threaten to fight them under the bleachers as you threaten to do before. We've also discussed the TE, OL and other positions as well as punter in this thread.

'79, that was, at best, a tongue-in-cheek question; at worse, snarky by our friend Bob W.

I gave an honest answer we graduated our long snapper and Barnes was a kick holder I gave up a long time ago on bob and his motives for being on this board maybe a legit fan wanted to know

"Michigan State and Eastern Michigan are big favorites to win their season openers at home, while Western Michigan is an underdog on the road. The Spartans are 18-point favorites over Bowling Green, the Eagles are 12.5-point favorites over Charlotte and USC is 19-point favorites over the Broncos."

I'll take USC -19 all day in that one. WMU on the road, new coaches & schemes, QB with no experience, all new receivers.......USC Heisman QB, likely Top 5 ranking, at home........it could get ugly! Last year has ZERO bearing on upcoming year.

USC, as well as the rest of the world, knows WMU will try to rely heavily on their 2 RB's to take pressure off new QB, and burn clock to try to keep it from getting out of hand. USC focuses on stopping the run and it could be a 5+ TD blowout.

A beatdown in this scenario really nothing to hang their heads about. They'll still compete for the MAC championship with the overall talent that Fleck has stacked on that team (compared to most MAC teams).

RE: Unofficial 2017 FB Pre-Camp Thread
All I want to see out of our Eagles is a win. A 2-3 TD win just gravy. Expecting Roback, RB's & WR's to be well oiled, with the OL holding their own and improving week to week. Really, really interested to see what Keen brings to the offense? Defense should be better than last year. Special team ? mark now, with punter gone. Playing good football right from the kickoff, without giving up leads, will show progress and program maturity, which would be another great sign.

Very tough schedule.........but high hopes at this point.

Why would he care about Coach Mo's 'vision'? He's a rental for 1 season and done.

Is 'warmer weather' going to increase his averages? Seems like a stretch. With slight odds, I'd bet his final season numbers at ECU will be the same, or worse, than his final year at EMU.

Let's revisit in December. 03-thumbsup

Wish him well, but you know what they say..............the grass isn't always greener.
