RE: 2018 Bowls: Who Goes Where?
I would hate to go back to NOLA Bowl and play Arkansas State again. I pray we can win the West and choose our own destiny. My pick is:

NO: UNT
NM: USM
HOD: TECH
Bahamas: ODU
Boca: MTSU
St. Pete: WKU

UTSA gets the Miami Beach Bowl in Frisco because there is a vacancy.

RE: 2018 Bowls: Who Goes Where?
IMHO UTSA wins the west this season and ODU (QB situation?) the east unless their QB situation turns out to be an issue then MT takes it. Changing of the guard. I think WKU may take a step back this year after losing a great coach and a number of offensive starters. LT, USM are always good enough to go bowling and UNT's schedule may keep them from getting bowl eligible. FAU and FIU will be improved too. Rice, UTEP and UNT all have better APR scores than other Texas schools including the Longhorns, so those schools will likely have to depend on some 5 win teams going bowling. Marshall has a lot of returning starters and so does opponent Miami (Oh), and that game may be the deciding factor for Marshall's bowl hopes.

NO: USM

NM: LT

HOD: UTSA

Bahamas: MT

Boca: Marshall or WKU (winner of the game between those 2)

St. Pete: ODU

I don't see us picking up 6 wins. Another year away from getting back on track. If we go 5-7 or worse, we'll have a new coach in 2018.

Well we have our QB back which is something I would say in college football along with our entire secondary......Also easiest schedule we have had in years, we will see where that gets us this season...

I am also high on UTSA this year... They will contend for the WEST this year IMO... I still think LT comes out on top though.

In the EAST I hope it comes down to the last week with ODU @ MT... that would be awesome. Nothing against WKU, I'd like to see somebody else win the EAST this year.

Controversial opinion, if we don't win the west I woudln't mind ending up in the bahamas. ODU and MT have done their duty and shouldn't be sent back. Marshall would be another good option for the Bahamas if they are squeaking in at 6-6.

Wouldn't mind going back to HOD or NO, but wouldn't mind playing somewhere new and Bahamas may not be around forever. It would be my 3rd choice purely on destination.

I really don't care where we go to be honest! If we go to the Bahamas so be it. I got another kid due on Nov 8th so the chances of me going anywhere are slim to none.

Tech already did ASU in NOLA. If that's how it falls, I think I'd rather swap with UTSA. I think their coach would like to go to New Orleans and we don't have any pottery in our trophy case yet. But I think MT should get Bahamas every year they're eligible.

La Tech vs Arkansas St again?

WKU vs Memphis for 2nd year in a row?

Hard pass...not going to happen.

This is a very long thread about 2018 bowls, before the 2017 season even starts.

For the record, I think Southern Miss will be a bowl team in 2017 and go to NO or Bahamas (my wife might be okay with that destination).

In the thread named 2018 season, I think Southern Miss curb stomps the league and goes 13-0 on the way to the NYD Bowl. Our OOC is a very winnable, but with good games at Appy State and Auburn. Those are good enough wins for people to notice, but not Alabama/Ohio State/Florida State level games that are guaranteed losses.

In fairness, NYD bowl this season would be 2018...

And if one of our teams made it (first time ever!), then one bowl would be in 2018, but I would still consider it a 2017 bowl, since that was when the bowl was earned.

Funny to see in the record books after the fact when a team plays two bowls in the same calendar year by virtue of having played in January in one season and December the next.

I think last year proved that the people who run the Heart of Dallas Bowl will take UNT over a more talented team if they are bowl eligible. And if they get the chance to match North Texas with a Texas-based Big12 school, they will arm wrestle Judy for the opportunity.

A 5-win UNT taking on a 6-win Army made a lot of sense. West champ got a top 25 opponent in a better bowl game. Had Tech not gotten Armed Forces, I don't think UNT would've been in HOD.
