Unfortunately, I am coaching and have a game tomorrow night. Drink one on me and I will reciprocate at the next tailgate.

of course! 02-13-banana

Hoping they bring Nagy and Scott like they did a few years ago, especially since there is no women's coach this year.

RE: Coaches Caravan
Update on yesterday coaches caravan. We had a good turnout in Richmond. I would guess 30-40 people. In the crowd was former BB player Ronnie Wade whose son is one of the top prospects in the Richmond area as a junior. Wade was one of my favorites in his era and was good to see him.
Coaches that spoke were Jones, Corrigan, and Nagy. Nagy said this was an open recruiting period for football and Wilder was on the recruiting trail. Wood Selig mother passes away this week so he could not attend. Also on the basketball coaches Stith and Richardson attended.
Things I away from Jones comments: Caver is having his surgery this morning. We wish him the best. He fell lifting weights and broke a small bone in his left wrist. Jones doesn't think it serious as he will be able to stay in shape and should be ready to go in 8 weeks. He praised BJ Stith and says the light seems to have come on for him and he thinks BJ could have a special season this fall. Jones said we saw glimpses of what BJ could do particularly in the last half of the season. He also said Trey Porter seems to be taking that next step and they need to find a way to get Brandon and Porter on the court at the same time. He says Porter's confidence has really jumped since he came into the program. Jones is very excited about the two freshman Godwin and Hueitt. Says they are both great shooters and Hueitt played against great competition in AAU. As for the redshirt freshman, Xavier Washington, Jones says he really took advantage of his redshirt year ( gained confidence, strength, improved his shot). He can play the wing and his ball handling will allow him to get into the paint . His is expecting Xavier to be a big part of the team.

Corrigan talked a lot about Sims and the contribution she made to the team. Expects to have a head coach named very soon. Not much else to say there.

Nagy had a good sense of humor. I hadn't heard him speak before. He said everybody wants to know about the QB but that's not his worry LOL. Seriously, he did say he is very confident the QB that starts will flourish given our system and the returning players around him plus they have some talented guys competing for the job.
As for the defense, he is very excited about the depth. Linebacker is the spot with the least experience and seems to be his biggest concern.

That's about it from me. Others in attendance am sure will have more to add.

Thanks for detailed recap, JJ. Really good to hear that about BJ as well as Wade attending. I also can't wait to see what Xavier Green can bring to this team.

Speaking of Xavier Green, I saw coach Jones earlier week at an ODU golf tournament. He mentioned ther one thing he really likes about Green is that he practices the way he will play. He works very hard and really took the year off to make himself a better player. Even though he has a very high ceiling he cautioned me keep in mind he has not played college basketball yet and it will take him some time to adjust to the game. He reminded me that it took BJ Stith almost a third of the year before he got comfortable on the court.

Correction: I don't know where I got the name Xavier Washington from. Obviously I meant Green.
