On CH 6 NEWS they announced the new Teacher of the Year Award will be Wed
Alabama's TOTY last year was from Clay Chalkville HS. I don't know the finalists this year, but it will again be interesting in light of the recent renewal of Nick Saban's contract through 2026 at about $10 million annually with a hefty signing bonus.
What will be showered upon the teacher voted the best in all of Alabama? Will there be a bonus? Will they get a long term guaranteed income contract? Will there be a bidding war among school districts trying to lure this special teacher to a different district? They could offer to grant immediate tenure and maximum pay in grade for their degrees plus a signing bonus.
We will all know how the best of the best is rewarded this week. The best and brightest of Alabama's young people are looking to see how academic excellence is rewarded in Alabama. They are, after all, the future of the profession. What will they see in state actions rather than pretty (but cheap) words.

I'm guessing a trophy, certificate, and/or plaque.

Probably - plus maybe a dinner. The winner goes up against the winners from the other 49 states and D.C.. The last Alabama TOY to win National TOY was Betty Rogers of Jeffco. She received a plaque in a rose garden ceremony with President Bush (#43).
When Leeds later broke from the Jeffco district, no known attempt was made to get her to stay in Leeds though she was teaching at Leeds Elementary School at the time she won.
BTW, When a Mountain Brook teacher won state TOY, the MB System was given $750 in her name. Can you imagine the Bama AD giving UA the recently awarded bonus in Saban's name and calling it even?
