USA wins the series over Little Rock. Troy does the same over App. Coastal routs ULM.

That hurt. We finally get a great start out of a pitcher with an 8 plus ERA, and we make an error to give up a run and simply don't hit.

Also, this new baseball thing where players are taught to swing early in counts even when behind drives me crazy. Down 2 in the 9th and our middle of the order up we managed to go down on 5 total pitches.

I'd get aggravated at us, but I see the same crap all the time in major league games. Change in philosophy and hitting style.

Watching the TXST/GSU series was like watching two drunk mentally challenged mongeese trying to fight their way out of a brown paper sack. The bobcat died in the sack. The Panther managed its way out but got hit by a car 4 seconds later.

The AState/UTA series was sort of like watching the Coyote battle the Roadrunner. We'd get so close only to eventually run ourselves off a cliff.

You realize of course, that it's not the "running off the cliff" that's painful, or even fatal . . .

. . . it's not even the Fall . . .

... it's that sudden stop at the end of the fall that ruins your day . . .

Believe they call it: Deceleration Trauma

They were upset with the home plate umpire. The last comment was put your mask back on and do your job. Nothing serious. I like how passionate the fans were.

My theory is you don't yell at players, they aren't getting paid, but the umps are fair game as long as it's not vulgar. I've seen then run fans from the stadium when you're vulgar, and rightfully so.

Most of the players are getting paid. Most are getting paid tens of thousands of dollars in free education. They don't graduate with mountains of debt like most of us did.

I know that's a tangent but it's a pet peeve of mine when people play this sad song for college athletes that they aren't "getting paid." They are. They're getting paid a lot of money to play a game. They have a pretty sweet deal.

Except in baseball when there are 11.7 scholarships for the entire team.

For the record, I was just pointing out the one or two things that prompted the mic to be muted.

99 percent of the things I've ever heard from our fans about Cajuns fans have been positive.

That means 11.7 of them are being paid. That's my point.

So take how much you would usually yell at paid players, and cut it to about 1/3 of what you would normally do. Since they aren't fully paid you have to tone it down a bit in proportion with how much they do get paid. Which on average is about 1/3 of a scholarship in baseball.

Do some soft yelling.

If a player commits a blatant personal foul that costs his team, that's when you get into equivocal territory. But yelling at or booing players because they aren't playing well...that's pretty crappy.

RE: Sbc weekend baseball 5-5 to 5-7
The 11.7 scholarship effects some schools more than others. For example: The Georgia HOPE Scholarship, South Carolina's LIFE Scholarship and Louisiana's TOPS scholarships are very advantageous. The minimum academic requirements are generally low enough to be accessible to a lot of in-state athletes. It's not incredibly surprising that teams in those states (and most others that have these type scholarships) are usually more competitive. Alabama is one of the few states that doesn't have a program like this. That's why so many of our schools rely heavily on JUCO transfers (get more value for your money than using a full/half scholarship on an in state highly recruited freshman).

That's actually quite common. NCAA rules stipulate that football scholarships are allocated first to multi-sport players.

Back when UTA fielded a football team and an athletic shoestring budget, several of our better baseball players were on a FB scholarship. Same with other sports. We used to field only four baseball scholies. Really helped when a FB wanted to play.
