I'm sure I missed this somewhere along the way so sorry for the repetition, but what ever happened to the permanent indoor football practice facility that Mike Houston negotiated into his contract extension? Did that go the way of the dodo bird when he left?

A "permanent" facility was not what was negotiated. An indoor facility intended to be temporary is what was part of that deal, and it was built at Sentara park in summer 2018. Ideally we will have a permanent facility someday.

Not part of the negotiations yet discussed at the time was a permanent facility over old baseball field area and a two year time frame was mentioned. Sidelined for a few years is certainly understandable even without the pandemic. Dismissing the date of construction, do we know if this that was presented is still going to happen. I know people continue to advocate having the old Convo redone for this purpose, but it appeared the old baseball area was the final decision. Input please...

I feel like there are a lot of questions right now for on campus facilities. What is the plan for dhub? Old convo? Old baseball stadiums? Very curious to see what (especially sports related) uses these areas have in the future. Personally I’d like to see dhub paved back over and used for parking/tailgating

On a positive note the landscaping around the new Phillips Hall looks very nice.

COB Learning Complex is named Hartman Hall!

The article doesn't mention a dollar figure for the gift, but on the COB 2020 page the complex is listed as a $10M gift.

Given the dust-up created by the Breeze article it’s worth noting that Hartman was Rector of the JMU BOV when Alger was hired. The concern about fundraising and academics at JMU under Alger’s leadership are misplaced.

JMU is presently dealing with a $30 million deficit created by the pandemic. All new (or future/planned) construction is on temporary hold. Old baseball fields and field houses, as well as a $1 million gift to build a new facility at Sentara Park, are postponed. DHub was always temporary, and it will eventually be decommissioned and removed.

If you’re interested, google the current JMU Masterplan. It’s online and has been available to the public for years.

Ah the Mennonite Millionaire Jim Hartman gets it done. Selling off Truck Enterprises Inc. must have brought him a nice pile of Benjamins

Definitely is unfortunate about the construction halt, but completely understandable. I was on campus this weekend for the first time in months and was able to see the near final version of the new convo - it very impressive in person, as is the new dukes/top dog!

As for the master plan, I asked those questions because I haven't seen any information in the 2017 master plan regarding those things and was curious what others thought might happen with those, specifically the old convo.
