AAC has a plan
Interesting article in todays VP. Seems they are working on a very comprehensive plan to be considered a "P-6" conference. Begs the question, what, if any, plan does C-USA have? Seems we're in survival mode with no sense of direction.

RE: AAC has a plan
Rumor: C-USA to consider adding UC Davis to keep up with its image as the most far-flung league in the country.

Judy Mac was on hand to give us some details. "Oh the rumor is true. I really like what they have to offer," she said in a interview at a wine tasting. "Their basketball team has been trending in the right direction, and their rowing team is top notch." When reminded that C-USA doesn't sponsor rowing and UC Davis doesn't have football, Judy replied "well that's the kind of climate we are in these days. You can't just add anyone, you have to add someone that will keep up with our brand and image as a conference. I don't think anyone can argue that 'far-flung league' is what you think about when you think about C-USA, and it's my job to make sure we grow based on that." There's no denying that. When pressured to answer the question about football, Judy went on "really, I understand football. The Quarterback is the most important position, and without one it will be really tough to succeed, unless of course you run the triple run option like Atlanta Tech." She finished her wine, got up and walked in a circle, sat back down and ordered another.

Turns out UC Davis has FCS football. Whoops. Oh well. Hope you all got the idea that it was very much a parody and not remotely true. Sometimes jokes are hard to come across here 03-drunk

And I have a plan for when I become galactic emperor, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Also, my plan for galactic empire includes just a ton of Rhombuses.

CUSA should be doing the exact same thing. Even if they don't do the whole P6/P7/P10 thing, the emphasis on improving academics, safety, marketing, attendance etc as well as wins, and acknowledging the importance of media exposure is EXACTLY what CUSA should be doing as well. I love that they are taking a proactive approach, and acting like they should be considered a power conference and even asking the media to treat them as such. It takes guts and moxie to do that. If I felt CUSA was doing the same stuff and trying to better its situation I would feel much better about the conference. Sadly, I see no vision, pride or even ambition amongst the conference leadership and sadly, amongst half the teams.

If ECU truly starts taking the whole safety, academics, marketing, attendance stuff to heart, they may even surpass ODU as a desired institution, not just a football destination.

RE: AAC has a plan
Half of this is ridiculous message board level posturing and half of it is brilliant. Aresco's plan seems to be 'if we say it long enough and loud enough people will start to believe it'. Which sounds stupid. But remember in the knee-jerk, emotional, perception is reality, social media, and real media of today it's not completely out of the realm that, after a while, people may not 'include' the AAK in the P5...but they will associate them with it. And really that's all they want with the TV contracts coming up.

I really don't think anyone believes they'll get P5 TV money. BUT if, in people's minds, they are even partially related they'll get more than every other G5 deal. Basically it's all branding and marketing in an attempt to get as good a deal as they can.

Of course, but he is winning simply by getting some positive press nationally for the conference. He's going to leverage all of this when renegotiating TV rights and its brilliant. At least he's doing something other than sitting on his butt and thanking the P5 for their crumbs.

The P5 don't care what we become as long as we get starved out of the game in the process. Alabama et al don't see any difference between ODU or WKU and Hampton.
