Hire a coach from ODU, get a transfer from George Mason. What's next, hire an assistant from VCU?

RE: Karen Barefoot To Coach UNCW WBB?
As a UNCW alum, it's great that UNCW got a good coach from a good program. I don't even follow women's hoops because we've been bad to medium and I like men's hoops. If you're an ODU fan, I don't look at this as anything other than a change and definitely not something like...we took the coach from ODU. Anything would be an improvement. She may have seen the writing on the walls or a chance at a new location that's nice and a fresh start-I don't know because I don't follow it. Regardless, it's good to have a new coach. Hopefully the excitement level will get to a point that I actually follow the team again somewhat. I haven't followed lady women's hoops in years and even then it wasn't a lot. It's been men's hoops and for good reason. Hopefully it will change and I'll have a reason to care about it now.

None of us feel that way. A few of us are actually surprised that your program wanted her in the first place. In six years at the helm she never produced a single NCAA Tourney team here. With our best player and top 15 WNBA draft pick gone, this upcoming season was probably going to be her last year with our program. This scenario works well for both parties because ODU didn't have to fire her and she landed on her feet elsewhere. The timing could've been a little better on her part though as we're starting to lose some recruits. 04-cheers

RE: Karen Barefoot To Coach UNCW WBB?
UNCW picked up two more transfers today from Rutgers, Shrita Parker, 5-7 PG and Ashli Jeune 5-10 G. Parker was B1G Honorable Mention last year averaging 14/g in conference.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersbasketball/inde...looki.html

Ashli Jeune sat out the season due to a preseason ACL injury. She redshirted as a true freshman and played in 21 games off the bench the following season.

Actually hire an assistant who was the head coach at Delaware, apparently.

Wow, not bad!

Sometimes hiring retreads isn't the worst thing. We certainly have a pair of proven winners, one with heavy CAA experience, on the coaching staff now.

Seems like a great hire. Winningest coach in UD history, men's or women's, including a trip to the S16 with Delle Donne. I don't follow WBB closely, but seems like great early return.

Men's. The Women's team doesn't have a lot of wiggle room to change the roster for '17-18. They have 13 players on the current roster, and I haven't heard of any defections or possible defections. So the new coaching staff will need to win mostly with Harris' players in that first season.

That sounds good at first. After all, coaches should WANT some continuity so they can ease into the job and really get going with recruiting the next year. Until you remember that these players went 10-20 last year, scored 53 points per game and had an RPI of 217. Maybe Barefoot can get a lot more of out of them than Harris did, and immediately at that, but I'm setting the bar fairly low in that first season.

Even if Cacok leaves, meanwhile, the Men's team at least will have a decent core of Talley, Taylor, Fornes, Richmond and Elmore/Bryan to work with, plus the new additions of Estime, Sallah, etc.

Both coaches will need a couple years to get going, for sure, but the Men's team should be the better product next year, by a decent margin at that.

You are probably right, but i'll say remember what Keatts did with Buzz's guys!

Keatts was very uncommon, but yes, that possibility can't be discounted. Both for Barefoot AND McGrath.

Barefoot is much more likely to step forward than back. Even if C.B kept his loaded class and everyone that was here we were likely to win a few less games regardless. Last year was a ridiculous year!

I think Barefoot's opportunity for noticeable progress is greater. Keatts turned things around with Buzz's guys, but Buzz set the bar so low for Keatts. Conversely, CB is coming into a program with expectations of winning. Despite the setbacks we've experienced, real or perceived, we expect to see a good MBB product next year. Not that we're expecting another top finish and NCAA birth, but I think everyone assumes we'll be competitive. Barefoot has a very low bar. It's much easier to increase your bench from 100 to 200 than it is to increase 200 to 300.

Karen Barefoot To Coach UNCW WBB?
The question was who wins more games in year 1. Not who exceeds expectations.

To the former I say men's wins more games. The latter, women's will exceed expectations faster.

And that's a Capt Obvious statement right there. The men's team won 2 straight league titles. Women's went to the WNIT 2 coaches ago. Much easier to beat expectations quicker on the women's side.

Gianna Smith announced her transfer from ODU to UNCW yesterday, following her HC. Barefoot is loading up on the transfers.

As most, I don't follow WBB closely enough to say we're heading in the right or wrong direction, but we're certainly making over the roster.
