Could Mayor Election delay stadium Start?
As a Background the minority community politicians in Jefferson county have been split into two competing groups since Mayor Arrington first broke away. This sometimes has resulted in delay or ending of other projects I. e., the light rail project returned 150 million to the feds. The current Mayor's race main issue appears to be- should the city spend resources on central city, 5 points etc., or on the Ensley or Woodlawn neighborhoods (potholes etc.),
Mayor Bell was on JOX and discussed wanting to see if we can attract a pro team which is necessary for a dome. Before we decide on how to proceed with the projects A political friend of mine [/b]thinks the mayor believes the dangling the promise of a pro team/ dome stadium is more popular choice with both sides. In his opine the Major will wait to six months after the election to discover no pro team available

it's the way things have worked for 30 years, why would anyone ever expect it to change
everyone got bamboozled by this promise of a BJCC stadium/dome/whatever and it's never going to happen

Of course it will cause a delay. Pretty they want to wait for new leadership to make the decision.

I was under the impression they wanted to make a decision before the August 22nd election so as to tout the project in their re-election campaigns.

People need to get the idea of having a pro team of any kind in this area out of their head.
There just isn't a population base for it.
Even the Bulls have to settle for a 4 thousand seat arena way out of town.
The best you can hope for is an enhanced bowl game and possibly the HS football championships returning one day.

The problem is that a stadium for UAB is not necessarily a good thing for re-election. Most UAB supporters aren't voters in Birmingham, and most voters in Birmingham aren't in Downtown or Southside and haven't seen any investment in their parts of town. That's the whole point of trying to get a pro team, because that would get people even in West End or Woodlawn amped up. Of course it's not going to happen, but that's the current calculus.

There is probably going to be at least 1 candidate that comes out against a dome and possibly any expansion downtown if only to have a niche in the election. Hopefully it will be a fringe candidate who gets no traction.

I'd bet a mortgage that a new stadium will be ready for the World Games.

Hundreds of millions of federal dollars have been rejected due to decisions on public transportation and medical expansion made by the Alabama legislature to refuse to provide matching state funds for offered programs. This is not the fault of the cities involved, but the lack of vision by state leadership.
Yes, it is true that the western communities have become tired of the city government spending so much more on its eastern communities while relatively neglecting the needs of such western ones. All those neighborhoods around Legion Field did not decay overnight.

Are there any events in the World Games worthy of having a new stadium?
