Maybe we can draw from the same well and hire Elon's head coach again. Charlotte Smith led them to the tournament last year in the CAA.

Why shoot so low. We should go after a know entity. Maybe a top assistant with some name recognition from U UConn, Tennessee, or something

Please, let's not go down that road again. There has to be either a former player or an up-and-coming assistant from a Power 5 school who wants to become a head coach at a down-on-its-luck school with a loyal fan base. And I hope the coach is a woman. If she were still coaching, I'd love to have Stacey Himes lead the team. But since she's no longer in coaching, the first call I'd make would be to Mery Andre, who's been an assistant at San Diego. The 24-8 San Diego Toreros.

Mery went 24-8 in her first season as an assistant coach with the Toreros, but this past season they went 14-16. Not sure how much that has to do with Mery though.

Not that I would expect it to happen, but as young coaches go, you could do worse than a woman with six years of head coaching experience who has led her team to an NCAA tournament. Plus she can teach her players how to hit game-winning 3-pointers.

I like the coach at FGCU, Karl Smesko has a 345–67 record and been to the NCAAs 3 of the last 4 years, made second round last year and is just 46 years old. He just turned down the USC job at $400K, currently making about $230K. His players would run through a brick wall for him. Wood needs a home run here.

Elon has had few good coaches, Kay Yow coached there for 10 years. Elon was an 11th seed this past year.

In 2016 Tennessee had an Asst coach leave. The replacement was a bargain at 190,000. The third asst (based on the article) makes 160,000. Seems like Selig will need to find someone willing to take a rebuilding job for less money then they are making (if he goes the P5 route).

I wouldn't say broke is the right word, but ODU Athletics seems to be in a bit of a financial bind. The mandate to lower the amount of student activity fees spent on athletics as a percentage, and the reduction of CUSA broadcast fees is not a good combination. I believe much like Bobby Wilder, the new head wbb coach's salary will have to be met in some part by alumni gifts, and other fund raising methods.

According to tweet yesterday our move to fbs expenses has been less than the revenues associated. So we're in the black but not flush with money.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

She would be crazy not to. She has one year left here, and looking at her current roster, it's not going anywhere next year, so it's a choice of a bird in the hand or being out of work in a year.

Her lack of roster is her own fault . . .

Edit: agree with you in that she would be crazy not to. I like Karen. I like her energy. I would submit that if she leaves, she will not have left the program in any better spot than when she arrived.

RE: Rumor: Barefoot to UNCW
Interesting in that Karen seems to be the exact opposite of JJ. So many folks argue that Jeff is great at the Xs and Os but not energetic, can't relate to his players, doesn't build relationships, and is recruiting challenged. It's interesting that the criticism of Jone's "weaknesses" are Karen's "strengths" and Karen's "weaknesses" are Jeff's strengths.

Perhaps you need someone who can recruit and is good with X's and O's.

I'll play the part of Captain Obvious for a moment and say while the timing sucks, this is potentially great news (completely dependent on her replacement).

If she leaves, she will leave the program in much worse shape than when she came here!!
