I read somewhere recently that HGTV's rating have increased dramatically in recent years, and they have only 20% fewer viewers then ESPN at a significantly lower cost.

I would speculate that cord cutting is only part of ESPN's problem. In addition to cord cutting, ESPN has overpaid for TV rights in just about every market, they push a too narrow range of products, and I wouldn't discount the growing political tilt mentioned by someone earlier. Sportswriter Jason Whitlock raised some eyebrows earlier this week making that arguement.

I'd say if 15% of people cut the cord, 15% stop watching because they dont want the SEC and the NBA 24/7, and 15% stop watching because they are sick of talking heads pushing identity politics, that's 45% of the audience gone.

Maybe it's as simple as just as many people like to watch Chip and Joanna renovate houses as prefer Michael and Jemele talk about sports and whatever else they yap about.

I refuse to watch these talking heads yelling at each other. That's entertainment?

my wife and I have pared down by cutting all the movie channels and subscribing to netflix and amazon prime. we dont subscribe to any sports packages and I use a terrestrial antenna on the tv in my shop. we would even buy our own routers and equipment to avoid the monthly equipment fees which by the way should be illegal for them to charge since they dont allow to to use your own. since all the late night shows and many prime time sitcoms have a political slant or some group think social message they want to get across, we are gradually watching less and less tv. I try to watch as many sun belt teams in any sport as I can find and I follow the Rangers and Cowboys but dont just sit and watch any pro game that is on and dont care to follow the nba or hockey or any other pro sports. too much to do outside so I am one of those who has opted out as much as I can.
