Sounds like they are going to double-down on the SJW political stuff...

"CHANGE IN EDITORIAL APPROACH: The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Ramachandran & Flint write while economics is the "primary factor motivating the cuts, ESPN ... is also rethinking how it covers sports in an age with so many competing outlets." One source said that with sports news and game clips now omnipresent, ESPN "wants to focus more on building strong personalities and more opinion that will likely appeal to younger viewers." ESPN is also "looking to increase diversity and perspectives on its franchise shows such as 'Sportscenter'" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 4/27)."

It's not about increasing "SJW political stuff". Sure, you might see some of that stuff, but well over 90% of the content is all about hot sports takes, e.g. "DOES LEBRON STILL HAVE THE FIRE TO WIN?!" or "WILL BELICHICK BENCH BRADY AFTER A 2-GAME LOSING STREAK FOR THE PATS?!" That's what ESPN means by increasing "opinion". To be sure, it totally blows (but it's the unfortunate reality).

This board skews so far right they only see the 10% and complain about that.

Even that less than 10% of politics drives people nuts. They want sports to be only about Sports. I am the same way and it ticks me off regardless of whether it's right wing or left wing. But I think it's more a touchstone for how tone deaf the network is to the consumer desire for separation of sports and everything else.

As for RutgersGuy, I live in the SF Bay Area, and fleet week is huge. Except for one congresswoman from the most radical district, all the liberal politicians show their face and wave the flag, The City loves the flyovers. I think except for some completely committed leftists who are freaked at anything to do with military, it's pretty much a family event, and you see everyone there. Very democratic (small d) and diverse crowd (whites are the same 30% of the crowd as they are of the region population). But I do know that some places in the country the flyovers are politicized and associated with the right, and that sucks.

Exactly. Its a dumb move to talk politics to a mass market. In a split country, you're bound to make about half the people angry no matter what side you take. Unless you want to alienate half your audience, its probably best to avoid the topic whenever possible.

I was talking about sporting events but sure.

Only nutters think people who lean liberal don't care about the military. The far left/right nuts don't like anything government.

Sports fans in general lean right. Which is a pretty good reason to stay in the middle of the road. Don't go either direction stay in the middle.

On contraire: the far left and far right love big government. They just disagree on the allocation of it.

I think there's something to it. Sports fans tend to be the straight white male demographic more than anything else. The right politically also tends to be the straight white male demographic more than anything else.

There's zero causation there, but I definitely believe the correlation exists.

I knew it from the data when I worked for a NFL franchise. Average American sports fan is a white male middle class that leans right politically.
