IPFW currently uses blue and white, neutral to both IU and PU.

Their colors will still be blue and white

Being under one name, especially Purdue's (in my opinion), gives the school academic credibility, which it needs as it builds up its actual academic stature. Again, I believe it's a good branding move.

100% agree.

And now IUPUI needs to become simply Indiana-Indianapolis That campus is the home of Indiana University's med school, university hospital, and health science research center. It is Indiana University, for all intents and purposes.

So PU gets one, and IU should get one. Done.

(aside: I think it's dumb that Indiana tries to differentiate its historical flagship public university as Indiana University rather than the University of Indiana, like everyone else ... it comes off as different only in silly sense, not in a meaningful one)

The problem with that name is that Indianapolis has a good Division II school with the name University of Indianapolis or UIndy for short. They'd run into a tough little problem if Indiana were to do that.

The Summit League only used that nomenclature. Omaha, Kansas City, Fargo U (FU) for NDSU.

That must mean they will refer to the other school up north coming into the league as Grand F.U.

Why do you reckon that it's about "differentiating"? They were founded in 1820, and putting "University" at the end did not "differentiate" them from either Ohio University or Miami University, both founded a decade or so earlier.

Many of the schools you may be imagining they were "differentiating" themselves from did not yet exist.

There have to be some political considerations with Purdue people in the state legislature, but it makes sense to let it simply be "IU-I".

But didn't they just get to have the whole Fort Wayne campus called just Purdue? Isn't that their consideration? The Fort Wayne campus was administered by Purdue. The Indy campus is administered by IU.

I think it's completely fair.

Well, first of all, the official name Indiana University - Indianapolis is perfectly fine. That there is a University of Indianapolis would be irrelevant, for that.

For IU Indy's athletic brand just being "Indianapolis" ... I also think that's just fine, and fair too. UIndy might complain, but they're just a small private college. The public flagship should get preference. IMO

It's unfortunate that I have to say this ... but basically any time you read something about the Summit written by NoDak, you should immediately be suspicious of it, unless he posts a link confirming it.

He likes to make s___ up.

As you thought, Omaha, Kansas City, Fort Wayne, as well as other schools like Milkwaukee, sometimes simply use the name of the city as their athletics brand. This is proven by pics of the basketball uniforms:

I would suspect that Purdue FW will continue to go by "Fort Wayne" for athletics brand.

Also, NDSU has never used just "Fargo" as an athletics brand. Never has, and never will. Nor will the U of North Dakota ever use "Grand Forks" as an athletics brand.

No idea why he likes to make crap like that up. It's too bad.

Oh, so they were trying to copy Ohio U and Miami U, as opposed to the University of Michigan, University of Illinois, University of Pennsylvania?

No. Nice try.

Looks like the entire school is being assumed by Purdue except for the health sciences programs. Purdue will be taking over some majors and programs that were formerly run by IU. Purdue had already been running the administrative functions of the school. The ex-governor/Purdue president doesn't seem happy with the deal, as they're losing nursing and health-related programs.

IU will run the health sciences and social work programs through a new entity called IU-Fort Wayne.

From the IPFW Wikipedia page:

"Either Purdue or IU awards IPFW's degrees on a program-by-program basis. IPFW's colleges, schools, and divisions are not each identified specifically as IU units or as Purdue units. Through an agreement between the IU and Purdue trustees, most of IPFW's university services are administratively operated through Purdue's processes. This is in contrast to IPFW's sibling university, Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where IUPUI is a core campus of the Indiana University System, where IUPUI's university services are administratively operated through the Indiana University System, and where IUPUI's schools and academic divisions are each strongly identified by name as IU or Purdue aligned."

You're right: It wouldn't take much to officially split IUPUI.

I don't know, but saying the rebranding is fine and little will change seems premature. Before, the name connoted the funky co-op the school was. Now it just sounds like a branch campus... the place you go when main campus doesn't want you.

I agree branding shouldn't change. But, this is higher education.

For a CIT team that couldn't get over 1,500 attendance with fellow CIT team Ball State visiting...

...I don't think it matters what ipfw is called

Fort Wayne isn't the biggest market in the first place. But PUFW already ranks 3rd on the local sports food-chain (the Komets of the ECHL are by far #1, the minor-league baseball team is #2).
