The bowl always had a certain amount of flexibility written into its ties with the G5 pool---thats how it ended up with BYU when CUSA was the scheduled opponent in the first year of the Miami Bowl. Where this bowl is a quantum improvement over the Miami Bowl is the time slot. Instead of being on a weekday---a couple of days before Christmas--- at 2 in the afternoon, when most people are still at work---the Frisco Bowl will instead kick off at 8pm in prime time 4 days prior to Christmas. Much better travel window and a kick time that appeals to a much larger TV audience. lol....ESPN was clearly "hoeing" the AAC with that almost sinister time slot.

Aresco gave another AAC bowl tie-in to allow BYU to play in Miami. I have a feeling Temple fans can tell you about that lost tie-in. 04-cheers

You mean he should of done an all AAC matchup of Temple vs Memphis instead of the BYU vs Memphis game that was played?

Correct. Thats the deal. That year Aresco gambled that we wouldnt need the other bowl slot. He lost....or I should say Temple did. That said, ESPN can scare up an extra bowl slot if need be as they usually need to go to the at large pool for multiple picks. By the way, we owned the Miami Beach Bowl, so it had no "locked in" selection from the AAC (though we usually sent a pretty good team). Good chance the Frisco Bowl now will be very low on the AAC priortiy list (likely the very last bowl the AAC fills as it only paid $100K).

Straw-Man arguement, the agreement did not happen while the bids went out, it was done prior to the start of the season. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86560...-ESPN.html 04-cheers

ESPN has this strange thing where they like to make money. BYU vs anyone in AAC West sells more than 20,000 tickets. ESPN will shuffle people around.

No, the AAC gave up a spot to CUSA (or maybe the Sun Belt?) in return for their Miami Beach Bowl spot, which the AAC gave to BYU.

Normally, I'd agree. But, with a 20K stadium---this is likely to be a sell out with virtually any 2 of the following

1) Western Division AAC school
2) Most any western division CUSA school
3) Most any Sunbelt school from the western side of the conference.

I mean--sure BYU would insure a sell out. But honestly, BYU would probably help ESPN more someplace else where they have a lot more seats to fill.

I wasn't trying to make a straw man....I was honestly confused on what you meant, now I get it.

I look at the bowl agreements and would love BYU in this one. I could see BYU playing in the Arizona Bowl vs the MWC as it looks like the Sun Belt had 6 bowls this year and if they don't fill it, then BYU vs Air Force or New Mexico or Colorado St would be a great get for that bowl. But espn owns Frisco so I wouldn't be shocked if BYU ended up there either.

We do agree. BYU would get shuffled some place else.
