NCAA creates Division I Transfer Working Group to review transfer rules
Not super in-depth news release but...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaa-create...00929.html

“Transfer issues can be very complex. This group is comprised of experienced leaders who will examine the issue with the best interest of student-athletes in mind,” Sell said.

I plucked this from a Jay Bilas tweet. Bilas: "If truly students and not employees, there can be no restrictions whatsoever on transfers. Meeting adjourned."

Wholly agree with Bilas. An actual student can transfer anywhere they want to study. I see no reason why this rule shouldn't be changed.

Edit- On second thought this might be more tricky then I first thought. This could start creating even bigger and better super teams at the bigger schools making mid-majors even less appealing.

Big schools just sit back and wait and use the Mids as farm systems if it's "laissez faire." Gotta be some kind of regulation, IMO. Im also sure there would be cases where a few guys would be jumping every year of their four eligible. I believer the sit-out rule makes players stop and think if its really worth the move.

I want a sit out rule for coaches. Same with contact permissions and ability for previous institution to block where the coaches can go. Until that's in place, people need to get outta my face with this "transfer epidemic" crap.

As a student, anyone can and should be able to transfer from school to school. However, the athlete component of "student-athlete", there "should" be some restriction of movement. Otherwise, a players could transfer from school to school and coaches could stockpiling talent by tampering with other programs rosters. The bigger programs would then be able to sign 5-star players AND cherry pick smaller program's rosters for their best players who they might have missed scouting the first go around. There needs to be rules to stop this from happening. There are even transfer restrictions at the high school level to prevent gaining competitive advantages by recruiting the best players away from other districts (and other schools).

Let the student athletes transfer without penalty if their coach bails for another gig, otherwise keep the sit a year rule in place.
