It will be an interesting year. I think Austin Peay and Connecticut are almost sure-fire wins. I think Michigan and South Florida are almost sure-fire losses. Everything in between is pretty much a toss-up. Outside of those 4 games, I wouldn't be surprised by any outcomes.

My guess is 8-4. Tubbs recruits weren't terrible they just needed leadership and our current coaching staff provides that.

I am going to say 8-4. Hopefully Gibson comes in and is the real deal.

The Miami game scares me a little bit. I think if TT is here still that is a loss. I am hoping that HCLF can coach em up to a W in Oxford. Would be cool to see a large Bearcats following make the trek to Nowheresville, OH for that game.

I don't know. Miami is definitely improved, but embracing an historic rivalry is just the type of thing I can see CLF doing. I think he will have them juiced up for it for the first time in a number of years. I see a blow-out win for the Victory Bell.

I agree. I don't buy too much into their improving record MACtion doesn't pass the eyeball test, they would've probably only won 1-2 games against even AAC competition. Given a coaching staff with a pulse I've got that as a comfortable win.

RE: FB 2017 Predictions
New staff, new schemes, etc. Plus, MAJOR question mark at qb right now not to mention Oline. Will the defense be vastly better? What about special teams?
I know CLF and staff are top notch (maybe the best we've seen) but again, all new and some big question marks on the team.
My prediction is we will be tough, not give up when punched in the mouth, and we will see a pulse. I also guess 5-7, 6-6, or 7-5 range.
All in all, if we can show toughness, improvement, and sign a great class, I'm good with 6-6 in CLF's first year. Anything more than that would be gravy as far as I'm concerned.

I think I'm not going to make a prediction until I see Torrance Gibson in Red and Black.

Smart. This team has a serious shortage of playmakers. He could change that in a big way.

Love that kind of talk! We should take a large contingent up there and show CLF that UC can and will travel. Make it a de facto home game.

Pretty much agree with this. Although I'd be more inclined to say Win at East Carolina and a loss to Temple and one of either UCF or SMU. The reality is this just isn't a strong schedule next year. We can't avoid losing to anyone OOC besides Michigan.
USF looks to be the class of the East and I'm sure Temple will continue to be solid although I do think they lost several guys (Jahad Thomas, the QB Walker and the LB Reddick). Navy stumbled down the stretch last year but I wouldn't feel good about calling for a win on the road. And then after that you really have a bunch of middling or worse teams. I'm sure some will improve while others will take a step back. I'm just not seeing a whole lot that scares me on this schedule. We certainly have plenty of our own issues, though. It'll come down to how big a step forward our guys take with a new mentality and what kind of QB play we get IMO.

RE: FB 2017 Predictions
I feel last years 4-8 team would have went 6-6 with a coach that gave a rats ass.
With a slight uptick in experience and talent next year and the momentum of the new staff , I'd add 1-2 wins to that. So without going game by game through the schedule.. 7-5/8-4 seems reasonable and within reach next year . (Which it looks like we are all honing in on that range)

I think the defense will be very good. They made a ton of progress last season, and the offense put them in a lot of bad situations. I think the offense will be the ones holding the team back this season.

9-3
I think we find that we have serious playmakers on the ground - Boone & Doaks.
Average QB play. Even if Gibson gets up to speed. I think he is primarily a 'package QB' early on and likely throughout the season.
We've got some WRs that will impress as well, however the real difference makers will be our TEs. Denbrock will emphasize them this year and they'll be a welcomed addition.
Defensive will be improved.
Tubs didn't leave a bare cupboard at all. Just didn't have the coaches to maximize their talent.

RE: FB 2017 Predictions
My feeling is the defense will be pretty good relative to the rest of our league. It really comes down to how big the holes are on the offensive line and at QB. I think between 7-5 and 9-3 is most likely. I think doing worse than that in year one is more likely than doing better.

6-6 fair to middling. The best of the worst and the worst of the best.
CLF will win us one game, and CLF will lose us one game.
Tubbs' players can't play.
High expectations are lowered. We are in the league we are in - the best of the worst.

RE: FB 2017 Predictions
I think our defense is going to be really good this year. I think the position group our success will depend on the most is the offensive line. I think we already know we aren't in the best shape at QB unless Gibson is somehow ready to light the world on fire after not playing quarterback for a couple years. We've got good running backs, so if the offensive line can get us a push, we can be a ground-oriented offense and take the pressure off our QB's. At WR, I think we are just good enough to keep defenses honest, but we just don't have enough playmakers to make an average QB look like an All-American.

6-6 maybe 7-5.
I agree CLF is killing the recruiting trail, but once the lights are on and he has to coach the games with TT's players the reality of the season will come into focus. We are way off better than with TT for sure, but I have a hard time imagining 9-10 wins with the players we have right now. I think 6-6 (7-5) with this squad today is realistic. Next year and after, I think the expectations go up exponentially. If we don't win 8 games next year and approaching 10 wins the next season, it will be disappointing. I think after this year, getting back to what we have become used to (BK days) should be within reason, especially in the AAC.

RE: FB 2017 Predictions
I won't be surprised by anything between 6-6 and 9-4. I'm not certain that our talent level is really that bad compared to the AAC, I think a bigger factor might be if and how quickly Luke can stamp out the old Tubs-era mentalities. If he can't, then at least our incoming raw talent level and fresh attitudes will make us competitive within a couple years.
