Valpo's Board is meeting next week.

Several twitter sources say Valpo and Murray St are both in play.

Just wondering ... why would IL St care about playing MO St, but not care about playing IN St?? Neither are very good football programs, neither are particularly close by (though IN St is a lot closer by miles), and both are in the MVC for all sports ...

Our fanbase does not care about InSt in football because they dont even try. Im going to assume the Missouri State thing is just a personal preference. The last time we hosted In St it was raining and drew 7,500 the previous time was 2013, attendance was around 8,000 (for comparison the Western game was 11,000 that year) most recent Mo St game was 7,000

Don't think Oral Roberts would be included in that. One thing to be private Catholic ... another thing entirely to be founded by a modern evangelical protestant.

Might be better off including Lipscomb for Belmont and trying to peel off a school like Duquesne for Detroit.

If they are both added, then membership goes to 11.

ORU was part of the Horizon League precursor the Midwestern City Conference, which was mostly private at the time. ORU had budget problems which forced them down to DII for a time. Even Notre Dame wasn't ashamed to be joined with them at the time, never mind Xavier, Butler, Loyola and St Louis, and thats when ORU had Oral Bob preaching and healing.

Too bad Bob couldn't heal the program at the time and save them from going D-2.

Sorry. They actually went NAIA, not DII. Now the NCAA wouldn't allow an NAIA team to go straight DI.

Fair enough. I wish the Summit didn't have to associate with them.

Could be a move to put pressure on UIC or Belmont to jump on board as the 12th school.

Brought this up before, but three teams if properly distributed among fb / bb and geography would yield more support than only one school, which would irritate several schools that didn't get picked.

Murray St seems unusual in that it so so regionally dominate for the Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky. Neighboring schools in Tennessee like UT Martin or Austin Peay or Morehead St in Ky don't have nearly the support that Murray St has, as the residents of those eight far west KY counties seem to galvanize behind their local U, while other similar size schools in the OVC dont have a regionally strong identity like Murray St. Imagine that S Ill and Evansville strongly support them and weaker MVFC schools like Ind St do as well.

Valpo gets support from all the privates and from Indiana N and C Illinois schools.

But UNI and Mo St would be left out, as the league would be going in an opposite direction from them. Would seem that UMKC or Omaha would have support, but neither offers much basketball history and a bigger issue might be getting FBS allies on board. NDSU is the easiest get on that front, and helps get more coverage in the MSP market, which both UNi and dake need, and helps ease the pain of a weaker MVFC team in Murray St for those schools that have FBS dreams

Those three satisfy all MVC concerns. Only one school could leave the MVC even more split.

SDSU would do more than NDSU, for both MO St and UNI (better bball, and closer), plus UNI hates NDSU to the bitter end.

I'm going to make sure that NDSU and UND are stuck together until the end of time, NoDak, just to spite you. 03-lol

Any Montana move involves at least five schools, maybe more. Mont, MSU, Idaho, EWU and likely Weber St are a package deal.

I think Northern Colorado and Idaho State as well.

from east to west:
Eastern Washington, Idaho, Idaho State, Northern Colorado, Montana, Montana State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Minn. State-Mankato and maybe a Colorado Mesa as number 12 for football? Move Western Illinois to either MVC or OVC. Move Denver, Omaha and others out of the Summit to MVC or Horizon. Big Sky then could grab Central Washington, Western Oregon, Humboldt State, Azusa Pacific, Simon Fraser and Dixie State. WAC could try and grab Denver, get Western Washington, Metro State, Cal.-San Diego and some others from Texas to the west coast. WAC could also try to restart football as well. There are several Texas schools in D2 that wants to move up to D1.

SDSU and NDSU fans almost make out under the stands during games as their love is so deep towards each other. Rimshot That's hardly a rivalry. SDSU and USD are also wedded to the Slummit tournament in Sioux Falls and to each other by their board. Politics wont allow a move by either. UNI and NDSU fans get their blood boiling during games, which is what a rivalry is about.

Contrary to some other posts here that I'm afraid of NDSU, we'll be better in all sports next year except softball, T&F, and in fb, and in all three we'll be closing the gap quickly. NDSU has for twenty years had deviousness up their sleeve towards us, so I'm just expecting it again.

At least admit you're just making up NDSU to MVC out of thin air for the sole purpose of preventing the two from being in the same conference, again.

SDSU is no more or less wedded to USD than it is to NDSU. The latter is an actual partnership, the former has no evidence.

A State Board governs both USD and SDSU. That's a stronger bond than fan love for each other.

I think they just have to live with it for awhile. They are under threat from other conferences for more poaching. EKU and SEIU have looked around in the recent past, this might kick start those. A couple others schools are potential targets as well (EIU, JSU). Also any further defections or weakening of the league by a weak addition could prompt Belmont to reconsider the MVC or other options (Horizon, SoCon).

The OVC has only 16 games because they play divisions. At 11 they lose the divisions. Strengthening interleague play might be a good way to reduce the chances of further defections.

What conference would go after JSU?

JSU might be tempted to go for an NCAA waiver for FBS as an independent. ThE OVC wouldn't look kindly on that, but the ASUN would offer if the OVC expels them.

If the OVC acts fast I bet they could get WIU in for next year and the MVFC and OVC could just swap the schools for scheduling

The OVC doesn't want or need a strong FB school like WIU, as theyd win most of the games now. To make matter worse, WIU is historically pathetic at mbb, and the OVC needs to strong program to replace Murray St. But guess it is possible.

Why would WIU want to leave their current situation to go to the OVC?
