will be really interesting to see who gets what games for the Big Ten when the tv schedule is released. You assume that Fox will select 1st the Ohio St/Michigan weekend. ESPN gets next choice. Do they take Oklahoma/Ohio St week 2? Notre Dame/Michigan St week 4?

RE: Big Ten TV
Will be very interested to see. Timing will matter on the games some. Notre Dame/Michigan State would be very compelling. Other candidates I think are Penn State vs. Michigan on October 21st and Penn State at Ohio State on October 28th. With all three of the programs looking strong last year, I think there will be big decisions there.

My best guess is that they take Penn State vs. Michigan. All else being equal, Ohio State vs. Penn State is a tad bigger as it has taken on a somewhat rivalry feel, but with Penn State vs. Michigan a week earlier, both teams are more likely to be undefeated going into it or at least not coming off a loss. If Penn State losses that game, it would take a little off the Ohio State/Penn State game as a result. On the flip side though, if Penn State wins that game, the Ohio State vs. Penn State game becomes all the bigger.

Other conferences schedules matter here too. If ESPN has a huge SEC match-up in a week, they can more easily pass on a big Big Ten game than in a week where they don't have as many other big games.

Very early guess (without going through most of schedule) is the order will be:

1. Ohio State/Michigan (FOX)
2. Michigan/Penn State (ABC/ESPN)
3. Notre Dame/Michigan State (FOX-they don't get as much Notre Dame)
4. Ohio State/Penn State (ABC/ESPN)
5. Oklahoma/Ohio State (FOX)
6. Wisconsin/Nebraska (ABC/ESPN)

Have not seen anything with new contract so hard to say, but assuming schools are still told ahead of time night games, I would imagine by early summer (since that would effect the selections).

Penn St is going to be hot this year. Not so sure the Ohio St Penn St game isn't picked second!

RE: Big Ten TV
another thing that could make the decisions is what the 2nd game available in a weekend is.

case in point- the weekend with Ohio St hosting Oklahoma- the next best game available is Cincy/Michigan.

Michigan/Penn St week- looking- next best game is Iowa/Northwestern.
Penn St/Ohio St week- looking- next best game is Mich St/Northwestern probably
so not too much of a difference there at all. So knowing that you'd get either Michigan/Penn St or Penn St/Ohio St- you would want to take #2 Ohio St/Oklahoma.

Usually these are done weekly, not season-wise. Meaning if Fox gets first choice each week, say for example like CBS does with SEC football games, then they will get pretty much every "best" matchup of the week.

that's not how the Big Ten deal is done. Fox and ESPN will choose weeks prior to the season of who gets the 1st choice. So Fox does NOT get the #1 selection each and every week.

The difference between the two packages is that Fox Sports will carry the Big Ten football championship game every season, which is a strong draw each December. Fox also will have game selection advantages over ESPN, which almost certainly means that the coveted Michigan-Ohio State rivalry will move to Fox most years.

Before each season, the networks will pick the weeks where they get first choice of games. Fox will have the first pick every year; ESPN will have the second; Fox will have the third, and so on.

EDIT: Apparently each network chooses the weeks in which they get first pick, rather than choosing games in advance of the season?

At least one of Fox's biggest Big Ten games will be on FS1 because they want to drive more viewers there. They put Texas-Oklahoma on FS1 last season.

No, it reads just like I said. They are done weekly. Now the difference is, as pointed out, FOx doesn't get first choice every week. But the selections are done weekly, not by the year. So it's not like Fox's first pick is Ohio State/Mich in week 13 (or 14 or whatever), and then ESPN gets the next pick, and takes for example Michigan St/ND in week 3 (or whatever week it is, etc). It is Fox picks Week 13, then ESPN picks Week 4, then Fox picks week 12, and so forth, using them as examples.

It "could" work out similarly, but picking the week can be a bigger deal, then drafting the particular games. Especially trying to predict preseason which games will have appeal the last weeks of the year. For example, it could turn out that Fox gets first pick the final week, but when the time comes, there is an even better game than OSU/Mich, and instead of having already picked that game first, they may have an alternative since they get first pick that week.

At least one will be on FS1, like Utah/Michigan and OU/Texas. Fox didn't spend all this money to highlight Fox OTA. They spent to get quality programming for FS1, FS2 and The B10N. They need higher subscriber numbers for those networks, not free tv.

They will/have already had a "draft" of which weeks they want 1st selection from. Bottom line, Fox does NOT get 1st choice of games each week.

Also- most weeks looking quickly at the schedule- there is a lot of times a HUGE gap between the 1st and 2nd selection available.

The Big Ten Network is totally irrelevant in this. They are getting the same games they always have...

And none of the games are going to be on FS2 I'd be pretty certain.

Fox owns 50% of the BTN. And I'll wager that at some point during the 6 year contract, there will be big 10 football games on FS2.

Fox may own 50% of the BTN, but these new deals aren't changing what is going to be on that channel at all whatsoever. The money they spent last year was for building up FS1. Although I'd be pretty certain there's specific requirement for # of games to be aired on Big Fox. FS2 is a total after thought on this.

My thought would be that Fox gets too few games to waste on FS2, and the B1G would probably prefer to air multiple games on BTN to protect its subscribership than to send an overflow game to FS2. However, we shall see!

yeah, Fox only gets 25 football games. They aren't wasting those on FS2- and contractually wouldn't be shocked if they can't put them on FS2. Similar to what Pac 12 has.
