The truth is the tax code for regular people is quite simple and easy to navigate.

I'm a believer that the average American is dumber than they used to be and thus the code appears more difficult.

I agree. It took me literally 20 minutes to file my taxes. If things are THAT complicated, get a CPA to do it.

Not so simple for 2 income professionals. Can get really complex for anyone who has their own business or rental real estate.

First year filing as a business owner. Wasn't too bad, but we don't have employees yet. My brother and I do the work or we sub it.

I'm sure it'll get more difficult as we grow.

It being your first year doing that it put you in a unique position to see the system in action.

What some call complex can best be described as flexibility.

With "simplicity," as some would like to call it, comes a lack of flexibility.

When you realize that taxes are really a scheme to track the movement of money it becomes clear that the system is not so much onerous as much as it is flexible.

Business taxes are made easier to understand when you ask yourself if it was money spent to make money.

Of course...but that's beside the point...I was trying to be as brief as possible. Hence why I did not list the myriad other possibilities.
