Arizona Bowl will be on CBS-SN, Dec. 30 this year
I suppose it's a step up from ASN...

Quote:Today, CBS Sports Network and the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl announced a multi-year television partnership to televise the annual Bowl Game, beginning with the 2017 season. CBS Sports Network will air the third annual Arizona Bowl on Saturday, December 30.

The Bowl will feature teams from the Mountain West and Sun Belt conferences. Both the Mountain West and Sun Belt Conference have committed to sending teams to the Bowl through the 2019 season.

Yeah I wasn't sure this game would make when it was originally announced but it appears they are doing well...much better than some of the more established Bowl games.

Note about playing this game on Dec. 30: The Fiesta Bowl (presumably at 4 pm ET) and Orange Bowl (already announced for 8 pm ET) are on that date.

Unless they want the Arizona Bowl to be played at the same time as one of those games, they'll have to start it at noon ET or 1 pm ET at the latest, which would be 10 or 11 am in Tucson.

The Arizona Bowl sort of went up against the Orange Bowl (evening of Friday December 30) last year. 5:30 PM ET start, while the Orange Bowl started at 8 PM ET.

Pending whatever college hoops commitments, I tend to thing they'd do the same thing this year. A early afternoon ET start doesn't seem ideal for attendance or viewers (they'll be competing against whatever Bowl game ESPN slots at 12 PM ET anyway)_.

I think the could do a 2-3:30 EST start, if it is a good game, I doubt I turn it over to the Fiesta. I could see Fiesta getting the G5 team this year. I know if App State or Ga Southern was playing in it, that would be my preferred game of the day.

After the Cure Bowl experience this year with CBSSN, I'm a fan. They did a full blown pre-game show and unlike ESPN didn't use it as an infomercial and forget to talk about the game at times.

Per the rumor mill. ESPN offered to take the Arizona Bowl but wanted it played Wednesday December 20th to fill the Poinsettia Bowl mid-week pre-Christmas slot and the Tucson people said no thanks because they wanted to remain in the post-Christmas slot to help the hotels.

Good for the Arizona Bowl for doing this. They also seem to be looking out for the fans.

Outside of the New Orleans Bowl or Las Vegas Bowl (which are played in destination cities with plentiful hotel rooms, while also being likely to play host to 1 or even 2 very local teams), the pre-Christmas Bowl games are great for ESPN but rather lousy for the fan-bases.

I couldn't even tell you who played in the Orange Bowl last year. I do know that Air Force was one of the 2 teams in the Arizona Bowl and it got close to 30k.--which really surprised me. Good for them.

I did miss it. I don't even remember it for some reason....I must be getting old or I just don't care like I used to. Interesting....

Damn. I won't be able to see it unless it will still be streamed with Campus Insiders. Glad they didn't go with ESPN and move the date to pre-Christmas.

I like the ASN broadcast.

I think CBS Sports Network still has a streaming package.

Correct, I've been saying for 3 years now they need to add this.

Yeah for those 100 people with WOW, Frontier, Buckeye, optimum, and Cox cable providers; Cox is the only one I've heard of. CBSSN definitely needs to improve its streaming availability. I'm in a house with 4 TVs but only 1 gets CBSSN. Why not put this game and the Cure Bowl on regular CBS with the Sun Bowl where they would have more available screens? These are the only games not on the ESPN family.

Last year it was 5:30pm ET, which would be 2:30pmin Arizona at that time of year (they don't "fall back" for DST)

The game could start at 10:30pm ET, which would be 7:30pm local time (tilting toward 8pm actual kickoff), which works fine in the desert. It would be fairly normal kickoff time for the MWC school, but late for the SBC school.

If the network could figure out a way to get more distribution (on standard cable tiers, more markets and streaming), they could be a major player. I have been stuck watching my Bearcats in the network for the past couple years and see a lot of potential in the network. Good production overall and the CBS brand is very strong

Arizona is on mountain time in the winter, when everyone else has shifted back to standard time. Two hours behind east coast time, not three.

Sorry but it gets cold in Tucson in the evening. That is why they moved to early afternoon for the start time.

I had DST backwards. hum.

I suspect they will start the game about 1pm MT, 3pm ET, and figure they will get the first half in. People who are going to stick around will stick around. The game is on CBSSN which nobody watches. So it'll just be those from the tow schools who care.
