Stories we tell our spouses
This time of year we have a number of giving opportunities but then we have to deal with the spouse.
So a poster gave me an idea that perhaps we should give our strategies in dealing the wife when she ask, HOW MUCH DID YOU GIVE!!!

Here is his post:
Quote:Did anyone else get a nice handwritten note for donating? I thought that was a nice touch - not sure if that is standard practice though as I'm not exactly a big booster.

It also led my wife to saying "How much did you donate to UMass that somebody took the time to hand write you a note." Good look for the school IMO.

My initial response:
Quote:There are many strategies to use with the spouse.
#1) Honey you are #1 in my book and took care of you with the life insurance policy.
#2) Write two checks for the same amount and when ever she asks, show her one of the checks. You can never be wrong say you gave x amount and here is the check.
#3) One of my favorites, don't remember but it was nothing like our vacation together.
#4) It was a lot less than I like, but need to take care of the family.
#5) Don't remember how much but really enjoy going and there are little benefits.
#6) Fall back position, lie your a$$ off. Say don't think I gave anything, did you send them any money?

Now I actually use a combination of these suggestions, but in the end do admit how much a gave. To prevent the big blow-up start leaking it with some of the above, except for #6. Truth be told at some point there is the big blow-up but in the end it's all good.

My wife knows exactly how much I donate to UMass because she does our taxes hahahaha. It's no secret in my house.

LOL Love this thread

It reminds me of an old guy I used to hunt with. Every other year he would have a new gun it seemed, but was always talking about how his wife complained about him spending money. One night while sitting around the fire pit after supper another member said "Hey Charlie, how do you keep getting your wife to let you buy new guns?" Charlie said "She doesn't. I buy them before hunting season and keep them in the truck. After hunting season when I take them in if she asks about it I say 'Oh that one? I've had it for a while' Works every time." LOL

"I have no problem giving the same amount to your college."

My brother actually followed through on this one year. He went to UC and his wife went to a D-3 school called Baldwin Wallace. BW was so surprised by the "large" gift (I don't know how big but it had to be less than 10,000) that several different people called her to express gratitude, and then they interviewed her for the student newspaper.

My response would be, "Have you seen the kids lately?"

"Do want our kids to grow up and go to Alabama, or do you want to inculturate them properly?" "It's your choice?"

They were both inculturated properly, as have been the grand kids, and no more questions were ever asked and there was no need to lie!

Stories we tell our spouses
I increased my athletic giving because we were walking to the stadium to meet my parents in the numbered parking lot. She asked how much it cost and when I told her said we should bump up to that level

I was told this, word for word:

"I put on spandex and shook my ass for four years for this university, all you have to do is give them money."

"Hmmm - You have never asked how much the mortgage, insurance, electric, phone, heating or, grocery bill is, so why are you asking about this?"

????

Many of us give and think it's not uncommon for our spouse not share the same enthusiasm. We know our spouses and sometimes stories come out.

Perhaps you should re-read the post.

Even funnier (to me) is she doesn't go any time it is...
too hot
too cold
too windy
too wet

In other words she makes two or three out of six home games but because she doesn't want to hike for the two or three she goes to, I get a spot near a very short walk from my seats.
