F that! He can go anywhere but State. If Bass didn't block it he should be fired. This sets us back two years unless CB has a serious rabbit in his hat

No. Just no.

Fair enough but it would be a severely amateur move.

I would be disappointed but it's no reason to fire a man that has been nothing short of successful in all aspects of his job.

RE: CJ Bryce
After listening intently, I've changed my mind. The best possible move would be to force a sophomore in college to stay at school he doesn't want to be, and to prevent him from going to a school he want's. Sounds like a win/win....

Nobody said force him to stay although it's unfortunate he's leaving . Like you always do you read it how you want too. These types of conditional releases happen all the time and there is a reason for that. If every mid allowed every coach that moved on to purge all their best players good mids would not be able to maintain any level of success. Come on man you know this!

RE: CJ Bryce
Sorry, but when good coaches move on I have no problem at all if players want to go with them. Some have the skills to move up and some don't. Schools reap plenty of benefits from good programs and so do coaches. Players should benefit as well.

Good luck to CJ and I hope we see him in the NBA one day.

Bryce is gone no matter what. If we block him, what does that say to future prospects that might be capable of playing in a big time conference? If a coach has a chance to triple his salary (or more) and a player can move to a program in an elite conference we should probably shake their hand, wish them luck and thank them for their contributions. Just my humble opinion. I thought during the season long before we knew Keatts was leaving that Bryce might look to transfer. He's that good, and with 2 years left, it's not a bad move on his part.

I trust that our administration will make the right call on whether he should be blocked from following Keatts, but if that's where he wants to be I'd be inclined to let him go.

I would not block him but it will impact how I think of keatts if he ends up at state. He will work harder than any kid on any team he goes to but I just don't see him standing out enough from other wings in the ACC to get him to the next level. 6-4 and slightly above average athletically with a sweet mid range jumper and ability to use his body when finishing. He'll have an Adam smith type ACC career and state fans will be waiting for keatts to recruit over him. But he is capable of proving me wrong.

RE: CJ Bryce
I don't see Bryce as ACC caliber...yet. With a year out, he may mature physically and get into a position to compete. However, IMO he is best showcasing his skills at the midmajor level where he can be dominant. He will have to improve his 3 point shot to make it at the next level.

More importantly to me as a UNCW fan, we now have another spot to fill. Hoping a 6'5" freshman coming in will fill his spot is expecting too much. We have too many 1/2 guards. Fornes will have to move over to the 3 spot. Four of our five starters and all five of our incoming recruits gone like a fart in the wind.

Taylor, Richmond, Fornes, Cacock, Sallah would be my starting five. We have to hope Estime is college ready and can play day one to backup Fornes. We also have to hope Elmore can backup Cacock. So, that leaves us with only Cacock who has proven he can compete at the DI level.

Complete unknown how we will do next year. New coaches, new style, almost all new players starting and right now practically no bench. If Cacock were to now decide to transfer, we'd be lucky to finish out of last place.

I'd bet against him being anything more than a mid tier guy at that level. Although small sample size he had his worst games against teams like that. He could of been a stud here for two more years now he's likely to blend in at a bigger school with the rest

I hate to see Bryce go because I really think he could have been the next player to have his UNCW jersey retired. I personally think he has pro potential and will be a really good player in a major conference...especially after sitting a year. He has a really good all-around game and he'll continue to improve with his work ethic.

The only silver lining I see in all of this is that we've entered the realm of "Big Boy Basketball" in a way. Some of the bigger schools have to deal with this kind of stuff all the time.
