That's a significant qualifier there. Brownell's seat is hot; can't imagine a guy like Bryce would want to take that chance.

Good ball handler that is almost always under control when he takes it to the basket. Fairly good behind the 3pt. stripe and can certainly improve. Excellent mid range game, better than most at any level. Good passer and solid defender. He's certainly not an explosive athlete, but he has a lot of skills. His performance vs. P5 schools is such a small sample group that I wouldn't attempt to judge his future against that level of competition. If he can improve his handle some more, get stronger and become a better 3 pt. and free throw shooter (probably his biggest weakness at our level...if he was an 80%+ guy from the stripe, I'd have encouraged him to take it to the basket relentlessly) he will be a solid contributor for someone. He has the tools. Question is, is sitting out a year worth it, not knowing what might happen with the coaching staff or other guys that may be brought in? He's definitely a guy that can fit in and contribute at the P5 level, but he's also a guy that will have earn every minute of PT for the next 2 years if he goes there.

Interesting side note...I think he'd work out at Clemson. They don't get elite prospects under Brownell, and if he improves his shooting, he'd get plenty of minutes as long as BB is around.

I'm not so sure about that. Brownell emphasizes the game revolving around a brutal, sit-down and defend defense. That hasn't been Bryce's game. Him and the others we currently have are not at all used to playing that type of defense.

RE: CJ Bryce
I would love for CJ to stay!
I think if he continues to improve his jump shot and free throws he could make the NBA - he improved so much last year it was incredible!
As seehawk83 said, he has a lot of talent/skills (I won't repeat). I really hope he realizes what he'd be giving up if he transfers. He has already been to 2 NCAA tournaments and won MVP of the last CAA tournament - as a sophomore. He really does have the opportunity to go down as one of the greats in UNCW history!

RE: CJ Bryce
Loved Esleeck's retweet last night regarding Lillard and McCollum and transferring up and then the mention of the last 3 NBA guards to win MVP were not power 5. Interesting. If you are good enough, the NBA will find you. Blizzard had his fair shot at making it over the course of 2-3 years. I think he would have made it if he was trying to get into the league today given the emphasis on three pointers.

I can understand if Bryce wants to play on the biggest college basketball stage in the ACC. I believe if he wants to make the NBA his best chance is here. Of course Bryce is the type of kid who could prove just about anyone wrong with his work ethic.

Not sure Blizzard got a good look from any NBA team. He did play in some camps but for teams with no roster spots so I think while its better than nothing it was not a real opportunity to make a team.
I don't see Bryce as being anywhere near Blizzard and I think he honestly has no chance at playing in the NBA. He could play for ACC teams but that is a long way from the NBA. He is a very good player but not elite at any one skill.

I saw that Esleeck was out of town, and away from his wife and child on Easter. There hasn't been a lot of recruiting news, but rest assured, they're working hard.

I agree with you based on his current game but some of these kids still have the dream and it's real to them. So you have to respect that during the process.

I can't help but believe these coaches have something or someones up their sleeve. Been too quiet. Either we will be getting a pleasant surprise or McGrath came in blowing a lot of smoke.

I don't think he was blowing smoke. Reality is a lot different than what you believe you can do. That's why I think our initial recruits will come from our assistants. McGrath was recruiting in a different stratosphere.

Based on what little I saw of Clemson in '17, BB has evolved somewhat from his grind-it-out style of years past, but he does still insist on defending each possession like it's life or death, Bobby Knight style. I think Bryce can adjust. He's pretty quick for his size, and for all our pressing, reaching, recovering and slapping at the ball, he rarely gets into foul trouble and is a very solid
defender. With BB on a very warm seat, Bryce would be ill advised to go to Clemson, but I absolutely think he can play there with their lack of elite P5 talent.

Is there a "transfer" deadline? Anyway to know a roundabout date if, and when any players may leave? I know we're worried about Bryce, but is there any news about Cacok? Is it likely he stays?

No news is good news.

Per Jon Rothstein on Twitter. CJ has been granted his release to transfer. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein?ref_src...r%5Eauthor

We knew this was coming. Was just waiting on his 2.6 gpa to be finalized. You were fooling yourself if you thought that initial report was wrong. Time to move on. I think he can be solid in the ACC but his best chance at nba is to lead at a mid major.

I will be bitter with Keatts if he goes to state. It will be obvious that Keatts saw us as nothing more than a spring board to use and cares nothing about burning bridges with our community.

UNCW should block his release to NC State. If they didn't do that, you can't be mad at Keatts. That's the AD's fault if that happens.

Can't blame him. He came to UNCW for a very specific style of play and we changed course with a new coach. I also have no problem if he goes to NCSU with Keatts.

He shouldn't have to pay for our decisions.

I'm with 82. Why be petty at this point. Him going to state does not hurt us anymore than him leaving does. If he doesn't think new coach will work out for him than he has to do what's beat for Bryce

"We" didn't change course...Keatts left. "Our" decision was to hire another coach who says he wants to play "fast".

How is that a different style of play?

And why should the man who said on video a couple of days before the NCAA tournament that he had not talked with NCSU (an obvious untruth) be allowed to poach a current UNCW player because of a coaching change the HE caused?

Bryce shouldn't have to pay for KEATTS'S decisions by being forced to stay at UNCW, but Keatts shouldn't benefit from Bryce leaving over a coaching change that Keatts himself caused.
