Losing BB assistant - Ultimate Insult
The Record Courier is reporting the head BB assistant coach Bobby Steinberg is leaving KSU for a similar position at, for pete's sake, Youngstown State. I will save my barfing until more info is known. He was our top recruiter and a good guy.

I'm surprised it took him this long to leave. We don't pay assistants well and Haut is probably in line a head of him to be Sendy's replacement if/when he leaves. Best of luck to him.

I guess basketball is a priority at YSU. I suppose we should wait to see who they hire but I'm not optimistic it will be an upgrade.

YSU is pumping a lot of money into basketball. Bobby got the Associate Head Coaching title. Also, you might be waiting a while. Doubt anything will happen quickly in regards to hiring his replacement.

If I'm not mistaken Steinberg was our primary JUCO recruiter so my guess is we'd look for someone from the JUCO ranks to replace him. Alternatively McKee has been the director of basketball operations for awhile. Might be time to promote him.

Or beg Demetric Shaw to enter coaching. I don't think we'd ever get off to a sluggish start in a game with him on the sideline.

Unless you have the $$$ to do it fast, (Like YSU03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao) ... few head coaches want to lose top assistansts in the midst of spring signing period. ... So Kent might not get a replacement until mid-may or later. My guess.

He served us well. Probably the time to make a move. Such is the AC life.

It is not a question of making a move for professional advancement. It is an insult to go to a step down program. As far as I know, he was our number one assistant. He is going to a athletic program in a lower division with half our budget and still as an assistant. He should be leaving for a head coaching position at that level.

For those who think we do not pay, just learned that JN was just given an extension til 2021. For this year, he makes $425,000. This is the highest in the MAC. Sure that he is getting annual raises. How about knocking a couple hundred thousand off that number and putting it into some assistant coaches' raises. Maybe it would help keep them from having to go to Toledo and YSU. Just thinking out loud.

The program is a step down yes, but moving to associate head coach is a step up. I have to imagine he has hopes of being a head coach some day and that likely isn't on the horizon at Kent as our associate head coach is standing in the way of that.

I don't see this as a big loss at all. He appeared to do good work here, but I imagine Sendy can plug in a new guy and Steinberg can step to a place where the turnover is greater and his chances for advancement are greater. I imagine it was just time. He has been sat KSU a good while. Who was that shooter he brought in from the JUCO he was coaching at?

YSU is also not a lower division in basketball.

Tyree Evans I believe. I think he brought Frank Henry-Ala with him too.

My big concern here is we have three open scholarships at least one of which will probably go to a JUCO big. Hopefully this loss doesn't lose us any recruits we've been pursuing in the last couple weeks.

We are looking for 2 more bigs. And hopefully a transfer to sit out (meaning not a graduate transfer).

correct Haut is the Associate HC, Bobby is moving up a chair at YSU. yes his recruiting prowess will be missed. Good Luck to him always enjoyed my conversations with him.

Is there anyone here that believes that Haut is the next head coach and would he be a good one?

RE: Losing BB assistant - Ultimate Insult
I honestly don't know much about how Haut and the other assistants contribute to the team we have now to say if he would be a good head coach.

That said, there are several ex-Kent players that are assistants at good programs. Besides Haut, Jordan Mincy is an assistant at Florida St and Armon Gates is an assistant at Northwestern. If Kent wanted to go the alum route, there are some good choices.
