I think this applies to incoming transfers, Kyle Gilliard got his Masters degree when he redshirted and I am sure the same would apply to Jack or any 5th year senior. Question is, will Tony take him back. I see no reason why he wouldn't, unless he got two commitments and he ran out of scholarships!

RE: Jack's Transfer Destination
My understanding is that for grad school, you have to get in on your own, there's no wiggle room (not that there's much for undergrad). Lots of our players in various sports know they will have time for a Masters and plan accordingly to make sure they can get in. I don't think there's anything against someone transferring in for a grad only program, but until recently we haven't had a program high profile enough to warrant that.

RE: Jack's Transfer Destination
Fortunately for Whitman, he has found himself in the perfect storm, with regard to UNC. Yesterday, UNC's 6'10" freshman Tony Bradley officially declared for the NBA draft (he hasn't hired an agent, so it's not yet a done deal). Although there are three 6'9"+ big men coming in as freshmen next year, if Bradley leaves, UNC does not have another true post player on the roster. So, a grad transfer like Whitman would fill a big void on the depth chart. And although it's a huge jump from the CAA to the ACC, W&M's offensive system is similar in nature to UNC, so Whitman's learning curve won't be as steep as the freshmen.

And as a painful side note, Whitman has evidently marketed himself with the following highlight video. Makes you realize, when he was good, he was really good. As a Tribe fan, it's painful to watch ... like seeing an old girlfriend dolled-up and looking better than ever. Here's the link ...

Of course he could go to UNC and then have the program suspended for a year by the NCAA. Or limited to no TV and/or no post-season tourneys. That decision coming down, apparently, and finally, by the NCAA sooner rather than later.

What UNC did is a disgrace to college sports. I hope they get what they deserve.

Jack's Transfer Destination
Think Jack leaving is a done deal.

"He’ll visit North Carolina first (Apr. 26/27), followed by trips to Clemson (April 30-May 1) and George Washington (May 5-6) before making his final decision....
Although Roy Williams is yet to extend a scholarship offer, Whitman has met with the Hall-of-Fame coach and stated that the exchange went well."

“I’m very interested in what Carolina has to offer,” Whitman told Scout. “The meeting with Coach Williams went great. I liked everything he had to say about the program. I’m just looking forward to getting to Chapel Hill and seeing it first hand.”

If UNC offers a scholarship, it's hard to imagine that he actually completes the other 2 visits ... if he truly gets a scholly and some PT at UNC as much as it sucks for him to leave the Tribe, really hard to blame him for that opportunity.

Thanks for the last 4 years, Jack! Hoping nothing but the best for you.

Here's hoping we can somehow sign a competent big man in the next few weeks for next year.

Sounds like a good rule to have in place: if you take a transfer, the school they come from has the right to a home game.

Jack's Transfer Destination
Today's Clemson Insider stated they had two openings, but would only be using one on a grad transfer. They only mentioned Michigan's Mark Donnal (visited last weekend) and Princeton's Hans Brase, both 6'9" C, as the options. No mention of Jack. Unless UNC offers, the reality may fall back to GW, who lost 3 transfers, multiple seniors, and will be a bad team next Fall. I hold out hope that if the latter plays out, that Jack would still consider staying home, if grad school acceptance is there. The UNC news has helped to raise his profile, but whether that opens up additional interest remains to be seen.

Hearing Whitman's trip to UNC-CHeat got canceled but can't find anything online, yet. Anybody have anything to corroborate that?

Alec Lasley‏ @allasley
Visit has been cancelled
Keeping It Heel‏ @KeepingItHeel
William & Mary graduate transfer Jack Whitman will visit #UNC, eligible for 2017-18 season.

Alec Lasley‏ @allasley
Replying to @Tarheel_Sports_ and @1970CarolinaGal
With berry back, Theo back, Brooks recent commit. If you add Knox and Whitman, there would be no room for TB. Hence the cancelled visit?
2:56 PM · Apr 26, 2017

Lasley is staff writer for a Tarheel sports site. Implication is that with Joel Berry withdrawing his name from the draft last night, it changed things. There appears to be insinuation of a silent commit from #8 overall prospect Kevin Knox who will wait to announce on TV next week. That only leaves one opening which is believed to being held if Bradley pulls out of the draft.

A lot of personal growth experience in all of this for Jack, for sure.

Jack, we want you to stay!

Stick with us Jack!!

You will get more press - make such a bigger impact on the world of bb - leading W&M to their first tourney than one more NCAA by the Heels - or one more deflating appearance by Clemson in the NIT.

Zorch,
they came back with another team featuring James Worthy and destroyed us. It was a game I remember well and got the feeling that the coaching staff didn't want the same outcome as the one you refer to. Worthy looked like he was about 30 years old.

I remember the game. We hosted UVA and Ralph that same year. I believe Virginia and NUN Cheat were 1 & 2 in the country for a large part of that season. Both games were serious beat downs.
