it depends on the items. The NIU items, i'm pretty sure Athletics retains. You may contact them and see if they're willing to sell.

The non-NIU items, I believe, are from a sports memorabilia outfit. They provide the items and take a cut. If it doesn't sell, it goes back to them.

RE: Victor E. Ball Silent Auction now live
Went last year and this year. Last time I attend. Auction items were good. Lynch was engaging. Master of ceremonies tried hard to keep the crowd engaged. Food was cold, lines were ridiculously long.

Student athletes that spoke and represented were awesome. The crowd paid little or no attention to them.

IMO it was embarrassing how the "heavy hitters" acted. I am not even close to being on par, I give what I can give but it was infuriating. Senior administration learn to handle yourselves professionally.

who are the "heavy hitters" and how did they act? What was unprofessional about the way senior administrators handled themselves?

Would be interested in what was unprofessional about the senior administrators.....don't think it would be my business to care how the heavy hitters act, but would love some insight to the way our senior admin portrayed during the evening.

For $500 a ticket, at least they could have had warm food!

Well, I guess a lot of people attend this, which is a good thing.

I decided to eat at Baker's Square. Food was good and hot, I spent a little less than $500 a person, and I didn't have to wear a tux or even a suit.

Yea I don't like events like that where you're supposed to wear a suit. Why? Who are we trying to impress? I just bid on the auction stuff from home.

There is one in Naperville on rt. 59, just don't go there to try and pick up pies at Thanksgiving time. There was a 90 minute line last year!

As an eternal apologist for the working staff of NIU athletics, that's just inexcusable... weren't tickets like 450 bucks?! Drop that kinda money and get cold food, people who seem distracted, and standoffish administration? That's garbage

Seriously? That's ridiculously rude and disrespectful.

And cold food for that kind of money. Awful.

I didn't hear anything about rude staff. Just the opposite. Everyone said they had fun. Coach Kill was great and donated to niu. Also ignoring students talking was also untrue. Two spoke and everyone applauded. The food being bad was true but that is the caterers fault. Apparently they planned on cooking outside but couldn't with all the rain. Too bad because that does reflect poorly on the entire event and I agree people should have gotten good meals.

Haha! That's good. No excuse just being truthful and not just complaining about every single thing. Sometimes people on here seem to want to the worst and don't seem very supportive of our program. Let's at least try and be reasonable at times.

I have not received my stuff yet.

They emailed me last week to see if I wanted to pick up or have it shipped. Since pickup was during the week, they shipped. Have they contacted you at all? Andrew Joannides, Asst AD, was who contacted me late last week.

They called shortly after the auction to see if I wanted to pick it up but I wasn't going to be in DeKalb for a while so I asked them to ship it. It could have arrived today, I didn't get a tracking number or anything like that.

In a previous auction, I bought several hundred dollars worth of merchandise. It took over 4 weeks for them to ship the items (and about 5 weeks for them to arrive) after the auction ended. I was supposed to get a tracking number and never did. I had to keep inquiring. I wasn't getting any definitive answers and was just about to cancel my credit card payments when the items arrived. Also, in an auction before that, I never knew that I won the item I bid on because I never got the e-mail telling me that I won. I was surprised when the item arrived. Patience is the watchword when dealing with Athletics - lots of patience.
