Defunct major teams should be added to the list, and Missouri Valley Conference, Big West and Southern University should be considered major conferences between 1948 to whenever Big West stopped sponsoring football.

Montana left 1950, they were part of the PAC 12 bunch back then. Idaho is a Yo-Yo for being a major, then dropped down to D2, move up to FCS, and back up to FBS to go back down to FCS again.

Where are you getting your information? Some of those schools were never in the top division (Northeastern Illinois?) and some didn't even exist in the years you're talking about (Case Western Reserve was founded in 1967 through the merger of two schools which both had previously competed at the top level).
