Pastner could play the game, just couldn't coach/motivate.
Tubby ain't gonna play the game. It's only a bad situation because he refuses to do even the bottom line basics to compete and win at Memphis.

Since Saul Smith apparently is inept as a recruiter, to chose him over Keelon Lawson does seem like a dumb move on Tubby Smith's and the Administration's part (to not demand that the new coach keep Keelon Lawson as an assistant), if for nothing else, the recruitment ins he has.
Going forward, Tubby Smith will really have to do a masterful coaching job with relatively sub-par talent in order to justify his job and this move.
Who has he recruited besides his two boys?
Gary Parrish is a freaking radio/internet sports writer who has probably never played a day of basketball not even in the pee-wee league. So what freaking makes him an authority on experienced college basketball coaches, really? He's biased and remains
butt infected from the loss of Pastner. Preparation H for all who still suffer with this condition.

I'm a practical person. If a coaching change could be made today, I'd be for it. But, again, his buyout is just too high. I think he'll get two more seasons to turn it around, if he hasn't, I think he's gone.
So, with that said, I'm still going to support the Tigers. I'm thinking next year is going to be beyond ugly, but hopefully some of these Jucos pan out. If he can land a couple of stars, he might have the role players to put it together. Probably wishful thinking, but I really don't dwell on the negatives...

If all the cancers are removed...they won't have the opportunity to infect the new players! Tear down the old and rebuild with the new. Some of the miserables will look like complete baffling baffoons if Tubby wins big next season.

I'll be shocked if Tubby wins like he did this year, much less wins big.
Unless he has some recruiting ace cards up his sleeve.

I hope you are right. I think you might be.
I do know this...the team Tubby puts on the floor moving forward will bust their butts and be fun to watch/cheer for.

He's a highly skilled coach. The type of players will buy into his philosophy of not quitting, playing hard & tough, fundamentally skilled, a mindset to win, sacrifice for the good of the team, respect the name on the jersey, develop a winning culture, etc. Fuente had to establish a winning culture in football. This has to be ingrained in players who are willing and eager to buy into the process.

They spent the majority of the time in practice going over fundamentals. Coach said this on an interview. Wth are the high school coaches doing here? By the time they reach D1 level, they should already possess great fundamental basketball skills.

I will take a tough minded, athletic, never quit jc player any day of the week over a player that quits on the entire team.

I'm not sure who you are referring to, but I can guess.
But the Lawsons are transferring to KANSAS today.
Top 5 program off all time.
Not bad for some "quitters".

Former Memphis standouts Dedric and K.J. Lawson are transferring to Kansas, their father told @CBSSports.
Add to Lagerald Vick and KU now has three Memphis kids.
Memphis has one.
Relax, this was all a part of the B12 plan.
Prove to us that you will make the ultimate sacrifice - take on this dead weight coach so Texas Tech can go hire Chris Beard AND let us take all of your top rated recruits in hoops.
In a few years, we'll let you in and you'll have to be a bottom feeder for another few years or so.

Name one coach who hasn't recruited a bust before? Did Skal dominate when he got to Kentucky?

I'm numb to the feeling. Now, Clergeot is considered a tremendous loss when he was considered a joke of a recruit initially?
