DavidSt, please give it up. This trolling.
Yup, it isn't going to happen; adding 65 men's scholarships minimum to add FCS football? A current member would have to add more women's sports or drop men's sports. Football would then need to be an official conference sport. There are too many variables for the existing members to start up such an expensive sport. Then there is the argument why the existing WAC members want to add so many new members to a one bid conference with no real TV package just to have football. Most the of the schools in the Big Sky (who play FCS football) bring no name recognition to improve the Olympic sports. Football will not fly in the WAC unless there is real money to be made, or a majority of the the non-football members leave the WAC and starting up FCS football is the only way to draw new membership.
Under the present conditions talk of FCS football in the WAC is just a pipe dream. Something like this would need to be driven by FCS schools looking for an avenue to FBS football. Last time I checked the Montana schools and the Dakota schools are not interested in moving up.
No one suggested non football schools to add it. UTRGV is already studying the option. If you give FCS schools a viable pathway with other FCS to get to FBS and more money, success might ensue.
UCSD is like a gift horse that can make others follow. Use what you have to make yourself more attractive. The WAC at present looks more like a pig before the barbecue. At least put lipstick on it and make it more attractive. Could save it's life.

Curious, anyone here think Cal Baptist MAY have approached the BWC first, before the WAC?
Currently mobile....at the San Luis coast.

Cal Baptist is a Christian school. They don't fit mold of the BWC membership. I think they are working their way to an WCC invite but they have to start somewhere. the WAC is shopping, the BWC is not.

RE: Could the WAC make a play for Davis, Sac St, Poly, UCSD, NAU and SUU?
I think the WAC is likely wind up with a collection of 4 to 6 Christian schools by the middle of next decade. Urban/Suburban faith based schools either unaffiliated with a denomination or with an evangelical tilting denomination are the only growth segment in non STEM schools. This is where the WAC will find move ups, be they GCU, CBU, and I think in a few year APU, and down the road perhaps a similar school somewhere else besides SoCal. These schools plus a core of regional public schools like CSUB, UVU, and UTRGV will be the core. SU is here for awhile (the one WCC profile school)
I just don't see these unaffiliated and "low church" schools being accepted anytime soon in the blue blood affiliation old tradition high standards schools of the WCC. As a result the WAC is going to be where this type of school congregates. And there may be 4 or 5 of them in a decade.

I was hoping the WAC FB threads died with the old WAC board...I guess one can dream.
Agree with Stu on APU...who was a D2 rival with CBU and was put on the clock the second CBU was invited. Another SoCal school will do the WAC some good.
