He’s hiring helicopters to make a recruiting splash around town. He’s put together a staff of killer recruiters. And he’s recruiting at a higher level than at any point in Memphis football history. As a consequence, Memphis football now brings in more money than Memphis basketball. The way things are trending, that’s not going to change any time soon

That pretty much sums it up.

Agree. Norvell understands that college coaching, particularly in a program that's in building or rebuilding mode, is much more than just teaching a sport to recruits. It's also being a salesman to the community, recruits, donors, businesses, the media, etc. Norvell understands it, Calipari understood it, and Kirk understood it. But it takes a lot of energy and full-time dedication to do that - not sure Tubby has enough gas left in the tank to do what it takes.

So football is now one of the 20 or so college programs in the black? How much revenue you bring in don't mean **** when your expenses outstrip your revenues.

Revenues - Expenses= Profit/Loss

Take it up with calkins

Calkins doesn't understand fund accounting and neither do you. In case you didn't know, Most Universities are non profit. LOL

Wait I'm off ignore? Sweet!

Are you dissin your BFF calkins? Call him up and discuss his statement. You guys are tight and discussed tubby, right?

I don't know if he's correct or not but He probably has something you don't.

SOURCES.

Keelon brought in TWO 'major' recruits...his sons. Who else am I missing?

Also of note...people who are thinking we're now going to miss out on Chandler....we were never going to get him in the first place. I'd like to remind everyone that Mama Lawson said just because her husband was on staff, was no guarantee that he'd play for Memphis.
Tubby needs to get a Memphis recruiter...maybe Tony Madlock or other Memphis product who can get some kids to stay home.
We'll have to start small at first...3*s, then work our way back up as our basketball fortunes stabilize.

I just hope we don't leave a vapor trail in the empty air.

seriously, I see him all over town. the guy is a good ambassador.

He is, and I really enjoy seeing/hearing him. Tubby doesn't do that - no doubt about it. I've seen Tubby once. Of course, the schedules are different, and it's been mostly basketball season since I've been back in town. Maybe it will change over the summer.

I'm sure part of the deal with the last few football hires has been - you're going to have to get out in the community to build the brand. Probably hasn't been as much emphasis on that during the discussions on basketball. Until now.

You should probably hang out at more golf courses.

Piccadilly too.

And if you're in the mood for a Tubby sighting DO NOT go to local HS basketball games.

Dude DOES NOT CARE about Memphis.

The golf course stuff is all hyperbole. I'm at Southwind frequently.

And I hear he was at a lot of East HS games.

KJ will get that year back...He was granted a medical redshirt last year.

If he has to sit next year, he will have burned 2 sit-out years and 1 playing year. So only 2 years of eligibility left. He can appeal to the NCAA for the waiver, and may get it back, but not a guarantee until then.

If daddy gets a job, they will appeal this year to play immediately and could very well get that, so it'd be moot.
