That is not happening. A man will do a lot of things for $12M.
What a horrible hire.
Hey, he was picked to finish 5th and he finished 5th!
And he had to deal with a player's dad!
What do you expect from a high level DI college basketball coach making north of $3 million per year?
One thing that GP said during Jason & John yesterday really stood out to me. He was in a gym talking w/ Bill Self and a guy asked Bill for a few minutes to pick his brain about coaching at the college level. Bill asked him why he wanted to be a college coach and the kid said he enjoyed coaching the game. Bill said, basically, that he should stick to coaching high school, because being an effective D1 college coach entails 90% bs and 10% coaching.
It appears that Tubby and some of his ac's (Pooh and Saul) want to coach ball, not deal with the bs. That's why this hasn't been a good fit, thus far.
Yet he sure doesn't mind if he and his son get all that $$$.
And Keelon gets none of it.

The admin. wanted the antithesis of Josh and they got it. We had plenty of talent and a great recruiting coach that was too stubborn to hire qualified assistants instead of his college teammates. Now we have a qualified X's and O's coach (with very little talent) that has no interest in recruiting who is too stubborn to demote his son in order to bring in a much needed recruiter.
Can you blame Keelon for being upset? He's brought in more talent than all of Tubbys staff put together and has access to more. Tubby will never win big here until his guys are Srs. Memphians will not be patient when you see LaGerald Vick, JW3 and Chiozza making playing in March.

Seems the key characteristic that we needed the opposite of was stubbornness.
And that was the characteristic we did not get the opposite of Pastner.
Everyone should take the appropriate amount of time to grieve and self-loathe. The sixth and final stage of the grieving process is accepting that the next 3 seasons are going to be about "taking our lumps and gaining experience." Maybe we make a NCAA appearance before 2020. If not, Tubby is gone and we hire another coach (hopefully this time we do our homework instead of letting our fanboy president make the final decision) and then we wait another two years before that coach eventually has everything fixed. Maybe we can return to relevance by 2022.
