RE: Calkins chimes in
58th is generous . Other schools are most like going to bring players in that will rank them above us
"As the year unfolded, it became clear that Smith had no interest in promoting the program. He has assembled a recruiting class that currently ranks 58th in the country. At his end-of-season press conference, Smith said he was focusing the rest of his efforts on junior college players, which is to say, recruiting’s dregs..."

Fascinating isn't the word I'd choose to describe it. Maybe morbid or unfortunate.
I've never seen a coach screw up a job in one year before. He's got almost no support left....

I will still have a wait and see attitude for another two years, given the sad state of the program Tubby inherited. However, losing your best three players and a pipeline to possibly two more doesn't instill a lot of confidence.

Any current top 100 school that signs a Top 100 player will move ahead of us. Will be in 80s or 90s if grad transfers are included.

You can be a smart azz but he and I both knew it was the most important hire the University would make in a decade at least. Winning back fan base, recruiting, promotion, all things the University obviously overlooked in hiring Tubby.
This hire affected a tremendous amount of revenue at stake-which is gone and may never again reach the levels of 2013 or 2014.
And where did this prestigious private meeting between you and calkins occur?
And this is your business how? F**** off.

I was thinking we are definitely headed down...I just can't wrap my mind around those projected numbers.

How about 0 confidence. I'm at 0 confidence...From where I'm standing, Tubby's recruiting ways look to be outdated, and it seems obvious that his own agenda is interfering with our program's improvement.
But I don't mind being wrong, since I'm an all or nothing type it goes with the territory. Fact is, Tubby had all my support at the beginning of this season. Now he has none. He took the program in a direction that is not acceptable in my agenda. lol.
I want Memphis players to play in Memphis, do really well here so they develop an even deeper bond that leads them to retire here and actively support the Memphis community.

Go listen to today's podcast. It's fair and pretty well spells out what Tubby has in front of him.
He's got his son as third assistant instead of a productive recruiter.
He just basically ran off Keelon. Some think that was a good move, some don't but that's what he did. In doing so he cost the program at least one current player and likely two more pretty good future players.
Who's he brining in? A bunch of Jucos? Yeah, that'll work.
All the distorted beliefs about Tubby's recruiting woes are predicated upon "assumptions" no one knows for sure if he can recruit or not. I'd like to see actual evidence before I blindly make any assumptions. Just my perspective...
The dude is 65. In the twilight of his career. He under recruited Kentucky, and pretty much pulled 2 and 3 stars to Minnesota and Texas Tech.
The evidence is in.

I hoped it would be a good hire
I mean how hard is it to make phone calls to top local recruits who mostly grew up wanting to be tiger fans?
It's really not that hard of a job
You'd think a guy who had to recruit to Lubbock TX would welcome the chance to have recruiting advantage in his back yard

I thought it would alleviate his recruiting woes, but it just made them blatantly obvious instead. That's why this is so infuriating.

I will never like Calkins. He's just piling on the sinking ship like he always does. Just like with the banner article a few weeks back
